Style of play

Not a hard core follower, but have noticed a “trend” in styles of play. Is it typical that the European-bloc teams tend to be defense first? I remember the Dutch being more aggressive in the day. Germany have their moments.
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, B&H, do not seem offensive minded.
Am I missing it? Insights on the games welcome, thank you!

Most of those teams you mentioned were over matched in their most recent games. So they are going to be more defensive minded in hopes to send it to a shootout or catch the team off guard in a counter attack.

Those teams are not talented enough relative to their opposition. They have to lean defensive tactically as they’ll get killed in a wide open game

Think that’s bad, try watching a conmebol matchup not involving Brazil or Argentina. It’s almost a completely different game compared to the free flowing European style
