for the sake of the tournament, a team must be decided upon to advance. So technically, a team that wins the PK shootout has not won the match. They have just won the right to advance in the tournament.

This has always been understood but choosing a champion in a final I never have.

One of the main reasons the golden goal was tossed was because of the pressure it put on refs.

That's so lame. Not from you, from FIFA. The right to advance in the tournament = Winning.

PK's may not be the best way to decide a winner. But there's something to be said for a team nutting up and actually hitting the back of the net or a keeper making a great save or two. It's also just just great drama. No one else has come up with a better idea yet, so it just kind of is what it is.

Agreed on both counts.

120 minutes is about the max that can be played with any kind of intensity. After that, a goal becomes less and less likely as both teams are just done and have nothing left.

Have unlimited subs in a sudden death OT (if you come out you can't go back in). PK's to me is like college football OT, you're not really playing the game anymore.
