still have no idea why the US team allowed him to leave the field on anything other than a stretcher.

I'm sad to see Villareal go down, as they were a second tier club up until around 2000, after which point they nearly became a European powerhouse. They could still play some nice football too.

I agree. I really enjoyed watching them last season with when they had Santi Cazorla.

However there still may be some drama as to their relegation:

I read in the Italian papers this morning that there is a lot of discussion about Granada players allowing Rayo Vallecano to score the goal that saved them over Villarreal at 90'.

According to the article, there was a flurry of unusual, heated discussion between the players of both sides right after the Villarreal game went final and Rayo Vallecano scored on the ensuing set piece.

That would be extremely crazy if that is the case. I also have a soft spot for Rayo after their players played all of last season without getting any wages. I hope it's not true.

There was just a brief mention in the weekend notes of it in the paper this morning but I just googled it and found some video. Probably nothing will comes out of it but I can see how the flurry of discussion between the Rayo/Granada players and ensuing goal as soon as Falcao scored against Villarreal has raised some eyebrows.

Not to mention the Italian press should be well practiced in recognizing a scandal when they see one.

Link to some youtube video of the goal

It will be interesting to see if any EPL teams put in bids for Villareal players. They have a few that could raise eyebrows. Nilmar, Rossi, Valero, Zapata, Perez. Dandy could probably help us out with a few more notables. Rossi is out for a long time though.

Isn't Villareal's B squad in the second division already? That is pretty weird that they will be playing each other if that is even possible. I don't know the rules on that.

The rule is that the B team has to move down a division.

AS Roma, among others, are rumored to be after their Argentinian CB Mateo Musacchio.

They asked a fortune for Nilmar last year (something like 27 million Euro). I'd think they'll have to take less than half that for him to move but he could help a number of teams.

Zapata was solid for Udinese last year surrounded as he was by quality younger talent but not sure how well did this year.

I really like Valero.

I read awhile back, Nilmar may be heading back to Brazil... Wow, from CL to relegation in the same season...

I finally got around to watching the Rossi "celebration" video. I was expecting him to run around shooting bottle rockets at USMNT players after the way some SBers were talking about it. It seemed like he got excited initially by the fact that he scored from 30 yards out then was mobbed by his teammates. Maybe he should have kept them away from him and stayed solemn, but it was hardly a wild celebration.

I still hope he somehow tears another ACL.
