I know its old school but putting on one game a weekend on the NBC broadcast network is worth something.
It adds visibility to the sport in the USA and ESPN plus Bundesliga or whatever league they have.

I believe he is referring to the fact that the MLS TV rights is also coming up for re-bid in 2022.

They won’t even come close to the EPL

I totally agree but their current deal was for I believe 8 years 720 million that's not exactly chump change

Obviously, but it resets the market. With other networks not getting the prem and still trying to aquire/keep properties for their streaming platforms, this sets MLS up nicely to get more money when it's their turn. ESPN/Fox is gonna have to pay up to keep CBS/Paramount away.

Lol no

MLS needs a seven fold improvement on their deal to even break even

Their owners are getting paid because they own all the soccer media rights in the country to include the EPL

According to the head of ESPN it absolutely is. All these companies are trying to get as much programming to their streaming services as possible. Live sports is a huge piece of that. If you think the demand isn't there then that's just your usual anti-MLS showing

MLS doesn’t pull great ratings

That’s the facts

It usually does well in the spring in the period of nothing really on tv

The demand for other soccer leagues to be shown here is much higher. It would be foolish to think MLS is the driving force for ESPN and showing soccer.

Regardless my point about the owners getting paid bc the EPL deal stands bc they do in fact own the media rights to everything, other than the national team which just recently changed.

It’s not being anti MLS. The MLS tv deal won’t be something major in the grand scheme of things. The owners know this and that’s why they are fighting like hell to keep their regional tv deals(which can also been seen on ESPN+)

Garber doesn’t want those regional networks covering matches anymore

Is Rebecca gonna sign a new deal? Isn’t she in her final year?
