Hey SB, many of you know that I'll be moving to NOLA soon and I was just wondering what your opinions were on playing soccer, whether that be pickup soccer or in league.

What are the main leagues and when do they start play? (a simple google search brings up PlayNOLA, SELASA, Crescent City Soccer, and a coed league)
What is the cost to play?
How many games are there?
What is the level of play?
Is the refereeing as bad as what I'm used to from BRSA, BR Indoor, and LSU intramurals (the pinnacle of refereeing)?
Where do people get together for pick up, and how often?

Lastly, are any of you mofos on a (decent) team? I am looking for one.

TIA

I play Tuesday/Thursday at city park with a pick up group and am on a Wednesday league at CC soccer...was gonna try and get an LSUhSC team together for a fall league somewhere

It runs about 70 bucks for 7-8 games

Level of play is pretty competitive

Are you at LSUHSC? Because there is no soccer intramurals and I would be interested in helping you organize that team. I already know one guy who played at Milsaps who might be interested.

Eh, I talked to the head of intramurals and she told me it didn't exist, but that she was considering organizing a mini tournament sometime this year as a way to gauge interest. What's the name of your team?

The law schools play pick up at the Fly. The Loyola group plays on Friday afternoons. Now that fall is rolling around we'll be starting up again.

Loyola intramurals blows arse, so we're thinking about getting into a city league this year.

If you need an old (mid 30s), crotchety version of Justin Mapp (i.e. all flash, no substance, poor defense) drop me a line.

I....uuuuuuhhhh.... know a guy that fits the description that will be relocating to NO.

For sure. I'll need a designated sub for myself as I'm assuming I won't be fit enough to be on the field for more than 5 minutes at a time.

If I was in NO I'd want to play for Finn McCool's FC.

they are typically pretty good, but last season they had a terrible time getting players to their division 1 games. despite that, they finished third.

Is this league a good bet for another mid 30s guy that is slowly getting back in shape (but not near game shape yet)

I don't want to play in a league with van bommels tearing up my acl with hard tackles. I don't have time for surgery

no problem, good luck finding a team. the league should pick back up again in a month or so.

I play in the coed league. We're out by the airport off of Williams for the past few seasons. It's Summer and Winter, 10 game seasons, playoffs during the summer league, and it runs somewhere around $60 for the season. Not as competitive, 6 on 6, smaller fields, but it's fun for an out of shape older guy like myself.

Thanks for the info.

Does anyone have any info/comparison on the other leagues? Selasa vs PlayNOLA vs Crescent City?

SELASA is full field, a proper game. crescent city is an outdoor version of indoor soccer. it's a small field and i believe most of the leagues are 6 v. 6. i'm starting in a league there in october. i have no experience with playNOLA.

the last SELASA league lasted from january all the way through may. i think we played 10 league games and. there is also a tournament running concurrently with the league. we made it to the finals of that so it added maybe four additional games. i think we paid about $80 per person. it was a very fun, fairly competitive league.

haven't played a game out at crescent city, so i can't really speak to that though. a lot of the guys on my team play there and i think they really like it.
