The last CWS final had about the same overnight rating as the recent Champions League final. I'd be willing to bet the CWS had a lot more advertising pumped into it, and this year's CL final had two teams fans don't care about.

and the CL final came on during a week day, in the middle of the day. not exactly prime time

plus, like you noted, they were teams americans in general don't give a shite about

what about the attendence figures posted earlier, especially those in non-hispanic cities?

I never said anything bad about soccer (even though I dont like it) nor did I say it shouldnt be advertised or shown on ESPN. I am simply stating that the influx of immigrants into America have skewed/will skew the ratings for the World cup making it seem as though more Americans like soccer than actually do.

Not this shite again. ESPN doesn't care what we think, they just follow the money. There is more money to be made by adding soccer to its usual summer lineup. Of course they are going to promote it.

I started to reply before it got moved, I think it is funny that people get so annoyed when something that America didnt create starts to become popular. Soccer is the most complained about sporting event (no actual data to back this) by people who don't like it or haven't given it a chance.

Hockey is not American. Hockey is not annoying. And Hockey is fairly popular in the U.S. That is because the Canadians and scandanavians do not feel compelled to tell those who do not pay attention to hockey that they are somehow flawed for not paying attention to hockey. Hockey simply toils away in its own world, appealing to hockey people and minding its own business - as soccer should do. The vast majority of American sporting fans continually send this message through their indifference to soccer, yet soccer folks still whine and moan about wanting their sport to be loved by all.

No they don't. It is always in response to some non-believer (which it is fine to not like the game) starting some shite. A la this thread.

We don't go to the OT with threads like "Why is no one talking to me on the World Cup Board?"

brah you've never run into a super hockey fan, have you?

do you remember the abortion that was hockey on fox? they did all they could to pimp the sport nationally

hell, nascar just did the same

i don't see how an increasing attention upon the sport shows indifference

I don't understand how anyone would willingly watch and ENTIRE baseball game, and I watch golf. The 18-34 age range is who ESPN is targeting. WE spend the most money. We love soccer. Deal with it.
Soccer fans do themselves no favors by ripping on other sports. I think American football fans who refuse to watch soccer are ignorant, but so are soccer fans who feel the need to prop up their sport by tearing another down. there's room for football, soccer, and baseball.

You don't win converts by telling them what they are currently watching sucks. I think the arrogance of soccer fans is one of the things that inhibits its growth. Stop trying to sell soccer as "sport broccoli", like it's good for us. People should watch soccer because it's entertaining as hell and the World Cup is the pinnacle of fan intensity.

I think golf is boring as hell and I never watch it, but I don't think people who like it are stupid. they just like something different than I do. the world is big enough for all of us.

Horse-fricking shite. No one associated with the sport in America has any idealistic notions about its eventual popularity. I don't care if the sport ever catches on in America, I'm just tired of those apathetic to the sport whining about the expansion of its coverage.

People who love the sport will watch it. A la I dont like soccer therefore I think watching it is ridiculously boring. There is nothing wrong with that, but dont build up soccer like it is less boring than baseball to everyone.

...and this indifference is shown by previously aforementioned rising TV ratings, increased MLS attendance, foreign clubs (i.e. Europe not Mexico) vying to increase their souvenir revenue in the states etc. etc.

It will be skewed, but only slightly. Recent immigrants are more likely to support the country they came from rather than America. Of the top ten places immigrants come from, only Mexico and perhaps Korea are what you could consider "soccer" countries.

I dont disagree with that, but if these games are shown on ESPN it will skew the ratings a lot more than people realize

Best comment yet. There is this misconception on the part of the soccer-ites - that we don't dig it because we haven't given it a chance. This is just not true. I've watched "matches." I've tried to care when the World Cup was here. I just don't. Nothing about it holds my attention. It doesn't interest me at all.

My Honduran pals love some futbol, but I just looked and the only other Latin American country with a top 10 immigrant population is El Salvador.

If you tried, and you don't like it, that's fine. But you are the only person "whining" about it getting increased coverage.
