Top two MLS attendance numbers:
Seattle Sounders FC average attendance 36,112.67
Seattle demographics: 70% White, 5% Hispanic
Philadelphia Union- 29,954.00
Philly Demographics: 40% White, 11% Hispanic

This simply shows who attends the games and doesnt watch them on TV which is not what I was saying.

And only recently has there been an increase in the demand for soccer in the US. Wonder why.

1994 world cup and a legit professional league developing efficiently (slowly, but efficiently)

the 94 cup was like the 92 olympics for international basketball

I am not blaming immigrants at all, there is nothing to "blame". I am simply saying this is overlooked and soccer is a large part of their lives.

The CWS final series may have worse ratings than the USA vs. England match on June 12.

That is a guarantee.

Dear ESPN,

I think its a bad idea for you to market the event you have paid millions of dollars to broadcast because some people might not like it.

PS - U2 sucks now. It's not 1988. What? Were the Rolling Stones unavailable? Way to stay up with the trends.

Best ratings ever last year... a 2.1 for the final series.

The Italy/France final (yeah, not even a USA match) rated a 7.0 4 years ago.

regardless, when the 2nd and 3rd generations of those immigrants start spawning in the U.S. they're only going to serve to broaden soccer interests.

personally I don't give a shite about demographics. the inevitably of the sport's popularity in this country is imminent.

you do realize they prefer to watch games primarily on spanish-speaking channels, right? I'm guessing those probably aren't your choice on the cable box anyways...

So they come to America and hate America and watch mexican/spanish soccer on specialized channels?

bullshite because I know 5 of them and this is simply retarded. When the world cup comes on they will watch through ESPN which will skew the viewings making it looks like more Americans like soccer than actually do.

But those people watching the finals were all Mexicans illegally living here, not actual Americans.

the increase in demand has way more to do with Gen X and Gen Y being exposed to soccer at an extremely early age...thus many of them developing a love for the game in the same way they love other mainstream sports in the US. TV has responded to their demand by increasing coverage. It will only increase in the future, so get over it

Welcome to the ADD generation. We love soccer. Our parents stuck us in this sport because we could abide the standing around waiting on something to happen that is part and parcel with Baseball.

Our frenetic little minds actually wanted to get out and move and run and play, not pick daisies.

Sorry you don't understand the game. I don't understand how anyone would willingly watch and ENTIRE baseball game, and I watch golf. The 18-34 age range is who ESPN is targeting. WE spend the most money. We love soccer. Deal with it.

I'm sure PBA bowling league games will be on directly following American's thrashing of those LImey bastards!

2009 CWS Ratings

LINK

quote:

The network averaged a 1.5 rating, representing 1.45 million households and 1.928 million viewers. That’s a 36 percent rise in rating from last year (1.1).

I can't find a direct link saying what the ratings of the final game was

2006 World Cup Final Ratings

LINK

The World Cup final earned a 7.0 preliminary national rating for ABC, a 180 percent increase from the 2002 final in Japan.

1994 World Cup Final Ratings

Only the '94 final, when Brazil beat Italy on penalty kicks (9.5), and a second-round match that year between the U.S. and Brazil (9.3) had higher ratings.

The last CWS final had about the same overnight rating as the recent Champions League final. I'd be willing to bet the CWS had a lot more advertising pumped into it, and this year's CL final had two teams fans don't care about.

The Euro 2008 final drew a rating about twice of either.

The World Cup final in 2006 was eclipsed only by the Super Bowl in 2006 as far as sporting events go.

I don't speak a word of Spanish, and I love watching games on Univision. Since almost everyone in America are descended from immigrants (except pure blood Native Americans), of course the demographics skew towards immigrants. The gateway to international soccer is often "the mother country". My family's Irish, so I root against England.

what about the attendence figures posted earlier, especially those in non-hispanic cities?
