I think lamps is just fine, but not where he was today. Get anelka out of that CAM and put frank where he belongs. He's the QB/PG out there

Carra was great. The team has been missing his intensity. That sliding block on Torres' only oppurtunity was awesome. Gerrard also handled Essien alot better than in the past.

Although Liverpool was the better team today, Ivanovic was completely railroaded in the box and should have been a
awarded a penalty. The handball can be debated, that can not. he was taken down by Johnson, who was not making any sort of play on the ball.

def thought it was a pen as well. The handball I certainly didn't but Johnson's was pretty bad.

Lampard had a bad game. I like how you found a way to bring it to the Super Bowl thread also.

Invisible and Lamps came to mind immediately.

Well, we have Wigan and West Ham up before we get Man U at Anfield...hopefully, we will have 6 more points in the table when we play that match

Ecstatic. Definitely deserved a penalty against Glen but I thought the better team was in red today. If anything, that no call was karma for that piss poor miss by Maxi on that sitter. I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I saw that. Regardless, HUGE win today and I couldn't be happier. So glad I tivo'ed it so I could watch the whole thing tonight instead of getting score updates via the internet.

Chelsea's midifield is utter shite. A complete overhaul is needed. Lampard was the invisible man today and Essien wasn't much better.

They are all playing out of position. I really have no idea what Carlo is going for. He's totally changed everything from the diamond midfield that broke EPL scoring records last season.

I don't get it at all. Anelka wasn't very good playing behind Drogba and Torres. I don't know what Ancelotti is doing. And apparently neither does he. Serious question, if they somehow are knocked out in CL round of 16 is Carlo gone?

So even though you had 3 straight wins and lost by a single goal to a team that's in great form, all the sudden the walls are sinking in? Liverpool has taken more points than any other EPL side since Dalglish's appointment. You're still the same amount of points off the top since ManU lost. You still play United twice.

wait, how so? 'totally changed?' Chelsea are still playing in a diamond formation.

Seriously? Have you watched us play since about mid-November? We are terrible. Most of the games we have won have been fortunate. Did you watch the game yesterday? It's bad, bad soccer.

Exactly, we got a huge gift from Wolves and even that couldn't inspire us to show up at all and even take a single point off a mid table team at home.

We have played a 433 all season with most of our guys playing different roles than they played last year. We need Essien holding, Ramires on the right, Malouda on the left, and Frank as the tip with Drogba and Torres up top. Instead we have Essien on the right, worthless Mikel holding, Lampard on the left, and are now apparently trying to play Anelka as the tip leaving Malouda off completely? Don't bother with the fact Malouda has been our best attacking player all season. It's horrible tactics. I wouldn't care if Carlo was sacked now, either his tactics are off or the players obviously are not playing for him anymore or both. Either way, it's not working at all and something has to change.

Chelsea are still playing in a diamond formation.

Not to mention they played a pretty straight forward 4-3-3 the second half of the season. The problem with this diamond is that if you pin the full-backs back, you have no width, and 6 players in the center trying to play through the middle. 'Pool basically outflanked Chelsea, and pinned Bosingwa and Cole back by playing six in midfield. This 3 man backline and 6 man midfield could be the next tactical innovation. Maybe playing a 4-3-3 with true touchline wingers would break it though?

Much of that has had to do with injury, no? I.e. Frank Lampard is only just now playing consistently. Your back four has been a little wrecked. And maybe most importantly, Wilkins leaving seems to have done something.

Maybe for a third of the game. Chelsea played at least three different formations yesterday, the least of which was a 4-3-3. [edit: I think I misread you. see what you mean now. I agree a 4-3-3 would've worked better]

It's disingenuous to call a 6th place team playing better than anyone in the league right now a mid-table team.

Fire Carlo? You sound spoiled and unrealistic. Such is the life of a Chelsea fan, I guess.

I mean it's hard to ignore the fact that this complete meltdown started immediately after his departure.

Until this week that's exactly what they were. It was not meant as a slight.

What is the alternative? Just go ahead and throw this season away? This team is too old to be doing that. They aren't playing for him anymore. There is no excuse for what is happening and sure a lot of the fault lies with the players, but obviously you can't get rid of the entire team. I wish they could talk Guus into coming back permanently. I don't like the idea of firing the manager but sometimes a change is necessary, look what it's done for Liverpool.

What's the alternative if you get rid of him? You've already been through more award winning managers than I care to count. You're giving Madrid a run for their money.
