Here's what Klopp is probably thinking for a starting 11 next year:

Outside of "Not Bob", I agree

I agree, I believe Firmino is part of that 11 or at least is given every opportunity to win that spot. I keep telling myself that this is a squad put together by BR and the infamous transfer committee.

I think yesterday's game demonstrated that we just don't have near the squad quality needed to compete on an even basis with the Citys of the world right now. Sure, we have enough to beat them at times, but not when both teams are up for it and motivated.
Granted, we were using our 5th and 6th CBs, so its possible that colors the view somewhat. But attacking wise, we were pretty painful to watch for a lot of the match. Firmino had a bad day, and you know Studge wasn't supposed to play 120, but there were long stretches where we didn't even look remotely threatening.
There is a lot of change needed in our squad. Carragher said a new GK and a new LB, but I think we need more and better attackers, creativity, and a better DM. But yeah the GK issue looms.
The problem is we're trying to intermingle some guys that need to keep growing with expectations that we can competete, and you can't do both at the same time very well.

We all know our defensive needs... But we sorely miss someone out wide with pace.... I also think we miss a playmaker from the middle of the park... Hendo and Can are grafters... And have their place, but we need someone who can pick out a pass... Even if it's a DLP/DM type...

I haven't watched as many games as most in this thread, but I don't mind Can.

I actually like Can better than Henderson. I really don't know what hendo brings to the table outside of being the de facto leader. He just doesn't seem like he's that good at soccer. Sorry, that's just the way it looks to my very untrained eye. It seems like every time Henderson gets the ball in the final third, he lofts one into the box and hopes for the best, and they always get cleared by the defense. He just comes across as an impatient player, trying to force the issue instead of letting the game flow, often resulting in a loss of possession. I noticed during that city game that I find myself saying "wtf man" to Henderson probably more than anyone else.

Ive thought the same all season. I like Hendo, but he just hasnt really done much. Granted he was hurt for a while, but even when playing, he never really stands out on the pitch. I sadly didnt get to watch yesterday since my BEIN app was acting goofy, but from everything Ive read, City was the better squad on the day and deserved the win. Having a backup keeper block 3 in a row in PKs is part luck and part badass haha If only we could get one decent keeper... Congrats to City though. Glad to hear Madam Sterling choked though, that will never get old. And while Im disappointed we didnt get any hardware, it is encouraging to have Klopp lead a squad to a final within his first 6 months on the job! None of our previous manangers even got this close this quickly. It bodes well for the future. Yes a lot of this squad needs overhauling, and it will come, but I think its obvious the pieces we have... Sturridge (I know, I know, when healthy), Coutinho, Firmino, Can, Clyne, Origi, and Sakho are about the only guys Id like to see stay around. Even some of those guys, Origi in particular, will only be role players until they develop a little more and become starting 11 material.

I actually like Hendo better than Can right now... I think Can has a higher ceiling, given this his first year playing primarily CM, other than youth set ups..
I do think Hendo has not been at his best this year and I can only attribute it to his heel issue.. He was a lot better the past two seasons..
He still has more goals/assists in the league than Can (2/3 to 1/0).. I know thats not everything, but he was also out for quite a stretch..

Also, I know I give him a hard time... but Lucas did a decent job yesterday... played RCB and then moved to LCB... You can tell Aguero was attacking his side of the field and when he moved to the left was far more exposed with Moreno on that side..
Its hard to try and contain a player like Aguero with his burst of pace and general quality..

one last thought...
I know a lot of you have long since given up on Moreno... I can't say that I have all the way yet, but a new LB should be a priority (don't really rate Flanno or Smith either)..
I was very excited when we signed him too.. he has so much potential, but the amount of mental lapses is astonishing and I don't know if he'll ever over come that

Really fricking depressed today, boys. Sakho's reaction to being taken off. Lucas's reaction to the final penalty. Sturridge in tears. Klopp's demeanor in all the post-match stuff. And we have to take these frickers on again in just 2 days.

I thought Lucas was tremendous yesterday. I'm not sure we need to sell him, but he may want to play more than he'll get a chance to next year. At least I'm hoping he barely gets any PT. He maxes out his effort and ability most of the time, but his ability is not high enough to warrant him playing often on a team with top 4 ambition.
Saying all of that, its likely that Augero and Sterling should have scored a brace each, so it wasn't exactly a tremendous defensive performance.
For Moreno - he is what he is. Klopp will likely try to work with him. My one big problem isn't his defensive liability - that may or may not be able to be improved - its that he offers pretty much nothing of consequnce on offense to justify the liabilities.

Re: Hendo vs Can, I think it's time for me to admit that I know frick all when it comes to player evaluation. Sometimes Hendo looks good, and Can looks like shite. Sometimes vice versa. Sometimes they book look good. And vice versa.
My only comment is this... give me someone who can take a decent fricking corner. I would generally like my captain to be good at place kicks & corners.

I still think we should just make Moreno a winger and buy a new left back. Attacking is the better part of Moreno's game, for the most part

Henderson is decent at holding up the ball in midfield. He can keep defenders at bay in tight spaces, but his passing and decision making just seems awful to me. His passes are often inaccurate or ill-advised. He plays it safe when an incisive pass is warranted and hoofs it up to no one in particular if he feels like we've had the ball too long, it's like the guy thinks there's a shot clock sometimes. He's not the only one guilty of this, the whole squad really lacks in regards to creativity in the final third. To Can's credit, he isn't scared to burst down the pitch with the ball at his feet, which opens up space for guys to run off the ball. The squad really needs an overhaul. The guys try, but the pieces in place don't fit well enough together to perform consistently against anyone. There's just so much we need to realistically think about qualifying for Champions League. Pace on the perimeter, depth at center back (Matip addition is huge) a left back with a brain in his skull, and for Christs sakes please buy a goal keeper this summer. Migs is about as consistent as the spring weather. It was kind of depressing to watch the match against city. Realistically they should have throttled us. How we mopped the floor with them earlier this season is hard for me to wrap my head around.
*the first goal Sunday was a microcosm of the defensive brain farts all season. Lucas AND Moreno are defending Aguero, who's just holding the ball up while a guy clearly in Moreno's field of vision bombs right past him unimpeded. Alberto, that's your guy bro.

We lack a physical presence in the back
Lucas played his arse of yesterday but having Kompany in the back shows what can be done at the position

Sterling would have to be able to score in the first place to make that statement. He wastes clear cut chances like they're whip-its on a Friday night, pre-clubbing. Silver lining from that game was watching him miss tap ins just like he did when he played for us.
In all seriousness though, I finally got the motivation to come back on here to check thoughts. Agreed with everything said. And i absolutely loved Klopp's comments after the game. He's not only a great manager, but just a great leader of men. I love that man.
