Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, will be handed the full proceeds from Luis Suárez’s club-record sale to Barcelona to reinvest in his squad, after the clubs confirmed yesterday that they had reached an agreement over the Uruguay striker’s fee.
Having already agreed terms on a five-year contract with last season’s La Liga runners-up, Suárez’s transfer is expected to be concluded early next week, once he has undergone a medical. Although neither club confirmed the fee, sources close to the deal have indicated that Liverpool achieved the full £75 million contained in Suárez’s buyout clause.
Liverpool have decided that the proceeds of Suárez’s sale will not be used for anything other than squad improvements. That process is already under way, with Emre Can, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana having been signed for a combined cost of £37 million. A £25 million deal for Lazar Markovic, the Benfica winger, is also close to conclusion and Liverpool hope to complete the £9.8 million transfer of Divock Origi in the next fortnight.
A £20 million offer to Southampton for Dejan Lovren, the defender, remains on the table, as does a £16 million bid to Seville for Alberto Moreno. In recent days, tentative inquiries have also been made to Swansea City for Ben Davies and Wilfried Bony, while a move for Loïc
Rémy is coming under consideration.
So looking at money, assuming Markovic and Origi get done, that would put us at about £72m spent. I'm thinking Lovren will push his way through and Moreno could get done with Aspas being used as a makeweight or at least his sale helping to add money to our budget. Both of those deals would put at around £108m. With our original budget plus Suarez money bringing us to spend around £135m, that would give us a little over £25m more to spend. Do we go for one more big name attacker? Bony or Remy and save what's left or go for more depth in midfield or defense?

I heard on the radio on the way home today that we're going after Muller. Anyone know anything about that?

So freaking pumped! Hate to see Suarez go, but like others have said, the time is right.
I'm excited about the new signings. They all seem to be really happy to be here. I just hope all these new guys gel with our vets. YNWA!

Muller signed a new deal at Bayern today. No way they'd let him leave.

I'll be joining in on this thread throughout the season this year. I started following in October of last year and I fell in love with watching some of the Liverpool guys play. I am excited for my first full season watching the epl dedicated to a single team. Looking forward to the season, glad to be on board!

One thing I'm very happy about is that BR has brought in some guys that can fit what we're doing currently, but also help us break some teams down, when the opponents inevitably try to pull a Chelsea on us.
Lambert and Lallana will both be good in our existing system and also to break teams down.
I do think we need another top option up top. But I guess I don't know enough about Markovic to know if he can play all three front positions and keep the movement we have up there similar?
A LB/RB and CB are critical this window. I think we'll need another CDM as well, assuming Lucas is gone. Unless BR think that \Suso is ready to play in the midfield which will allow for Allen, Henderson and Can potential coverage for Gerrard? Not that I'm really ecstatic about any of those three stepping right in to cover our back four - though I am admittedly lacking in knowledge on Can and he may be great in that role.
But for whatever reason, I keep coming back to the 30+ goals we'll be missing this season, and who will provide them. Who will strike enough fear into defenses to open things up for Sterling and Sturridge?
Also, looking at the photos from training, Enrique is at least jogging around. Didn't see any of him actually playing, but he was jogging with the team. If nothing else, he would be nice to have healthy.

Just checked out our schedule. Didn't notice any really tough stretches, although that doesn't take into account our CL matches.

Just saw that we're being linked to Loic Remy.

I'm not sure Remy wouldn't be better than Bony and for half the price. Bony likely has a bit higher upside though.
By bringing in Lambert and Bony/Remy, we're sure looking at a striker up top because you don't waste three positions on purely a tactical sub/part time starte. And then Origi's future is strong and hopefully he'll be a Lukaku of his own in a few years and ready to take over for Lambert, etc.
4-2-3-1 - or a 4-3-3 where the movement up top isn't quite the same.

Borini played wide last year at Sunderland a lot. I don't know what his future holds bit I think of him more in the Sturridge and Suarez mold of being interchangeable and able to move around in that front three throughout a match.

I'd prefer Remy, all things considered... He is comfortable playing out wide and up top and he's scored goals for QPR and NUFC... plus, he's about 1/2 the cost.
I guess we could go still play the diamond with Bony, but then that would mean only one of Coutinho, Lallana, Sterling or Markovic would see the pitch..
It's not a bad problem to have, I'd just like a more versatile player... and I want to see DS as our undisputed #9 (Lambert as backup).. though if we get him, I will not complain one bit!

Yea I thought you were talking about our guys that could play up top.
I think with the lineup we have right now, I'd go a 4-2-3-1
-------Sturridge-------
Lallana-Coutinho-Sterling
And the 3 underneath Sturridge could interchange with Sterling probably floating up higher into a staggered kind of 4-2-2-2

I'm really excited to see Markovic and how long it takes him to acclimate.. I really think he can better than the three below...
The future is looking bright... we may have to take a slight step back next season (hopefully we can still finish top 4) while some of these new/young players bed in, but I am so excited for the season...
