Sakho is a very good defender.. He looks awkward and yes, can make a frickup every now and then... but he is very good..

Sakho looked great in that pressing attack and high line at the end of last season... He was in such good form before it all went tits up..

I think his biggest issue was his ability to stay healthy... played 10, out 5.. play 7, out 3..

He wasn't perfect and could be improved upon, but there aren't many in our squad that can't be...

Yes Sakho and Lovren likely shouldn't be starting CBs for us. But on one night, they were the best CBs in the world. Greatest game I can remember seeing live (well, maybe second behind USA v. Algeria)

+1 I don't think anyone's opinion here has changed on him since he last played for us - no concoctions, etc. He also didn't get near enough credit for his balls on the ground through the defensive lines to an offensive players feet, which enabled for quick moves and control on the attack. He actually would be a good Klopp center back, but that ship has sailed.

I think one thing we've really missed from him - he made our LB MUCH better. Moreno was lost without him - and look how bad he played down the stretch two seasons ago.

No doubt... He would always find these odd angles in which to play these passes, as well... one of my favorite parts of his game..

Agreed. He was great at bypassing midfield to break down a high line.

Another thing I always loved about his passing is how smooth and easy to control it always seemed to be. Never out of control and bouncing make it difficult to handle.

I mean, they've been all over the board (not seeling, 70m, 80m, not selling, etc.) - no reason to think its anything other than a negotiating tactic.

Read one report that we submitted a bid a few days ago - if it wasn't high enough I have no doubts suddenly they'll be telling the press "not selling".

I do think, if we don't get him next year, the big boys will swoop in for him when his lower release clause kicks in next year. Bayern or someone will take him. So I'd much rather overspend for him this year, if Klopp is that high on him.

Listening to Anfield Index (Gags Show podcast)

Gags gets some hate due to his voice, laugh, but when he has on some of these stats guys (under pressure show and sometimes his own show), there's usually a lot of good info.

On Karius last year -

He's coming back from a broken hand, which means the muscle/nerves in his hand take time to come back fully (which we didn't give him). Got 10 games - his average shot quality he faced was HARDER than anything Migs faced, and he saved more often than Migs did all season. His kicking was better. Higher up the pitch, which allowed us to play higher.

Yet he still got a lot of pressure/hate due to his performances.

I firmly believe Karius has the ability to be our long term #1...

I think we'll see him get another shot at claiming that spot early on this year..

£70 mn for a MF with one year's worth of experience in a top league and RBL are refusing to sell. £70 fricking mn!! Why have a fricking transfer window if clubs get their panties in a wad over doing business? The European transfer market has gotten ridiculous in the last few years. You're only seeing small fishes moving. No major transfers except at massive markups to the uber rich clubs. frick em, I hope we meet those mfers in the UCL and twat the living daylight out of them.

There was a time when Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Romario, Zidane et.al moved from one club to another without clubs getting all pissy about it. As long as they're not going to a direct rival and you're getting paid a fair amount.

It's all a direct result of multi-billionaire owners dumping insane money into the market. Clubs are no longer clubs. They are personal prestige projects.

I think there's more to it than that.

Managers, in most cases, no longer have the time to rebuild their squad. You sell your best player for 70m and try to bring in 3-4 guys and it may take a year for them all to work out - or maybe on 2 of the 4 work out, and you've been fired 3 months into it because you're 6th in the table.

A star player already on your team(locked up in a contract) is worth a lot more than what you can buy for the money, usually.

They are selling. He has to say that, what is he going to say? And we are overpaying and I am very happy about it. If we meet these crazy prices and the player wants to go (Keita, VVD) its over.

All of this, plus the fact that Red Bull are putting all their soccer eggs in the Leipzig basket. I don't doubt for one second that they would stiff us on Keita regardless of price. I think that they are trying to build a giant, successful team, and are off to a hellacious jump in that process after the success they had last season.

yeah, almost any other club in the BuLi and they sell for 50mm.. He just happens to play for one who has very deep pockets and doesn't really need the cash..

They're going to sell him. They already signed his replacement and they omitted him, their star player, from all of their summer marketing campaigns. He's a President, he has to say those things.

I believe both Keita and VVD will be Liverpool players this summer.

It's been reported out of guneia that the president is actually open to selling, its the sporting director that is playing hardball.

In the end I think we get the deal done. Several things working in our favor despite their stubnornness.

First and foremost, Keita wants to leave and the president has reportedly said that the club won't stand in his way despite the sporting director saying otherwise.

Secondly, we play in England. With the understanding that he wants to leave anyway, its better for RBL that he ends up anywhere but Bayern or BvB

Third, and this sort of ties into the second point...he has a ~55M release clause that kicks in next summer. So RBL have to ask themselves if they think 12 months of football from him is worth 15-20M while also taking on the risk that Bayern meets that clause next year. They're loading a gun and pointing it at their dick if they don't sell to us this summer.

I'm willing to do it if we're wanting to change it up again, but I'm deferring to you guys, 100% on board with DByrd doing it with the top 4 finish

TF would be fine with me but Byrdman is 1 for 1. I say we don't mess with success.
