Now that the board has settled down a bit

I thought balotelli looked really good today. i'm glad Spain finally showed up, they had been sort of coasting but today they came out fired up. Italy are the 2nd or 3rd best European team right now no doubt, and will lose a lot when they lose Pirlo. Portugal were really good and actually outplayed Spain, but Ronaldo is cursed (probably because of his arrogance). all in all, a great Euros... wish a few guys could've had more chances (Ibra, Shevchenko, Bendtner)

Not really his fault but he kept getting the ball way too far from goal and looked like he didn't know what to do with it. Gave it away cheaply A LOT.

Spain came out the way we all knew they could. They were in complete control of the match, despite Italy having more possession than them through stretches of the match, and cut off Pirlo from the rest of the team. They gave him no space on the ball and didn't let him get in a groove. That was the difference for me.
Didn't help that Italy had injury woes, but I think the game was over by that time. Italy did have some quality chances, but never looked in the mood to win the match.

Spain had a strangehold on the midfield, and the back four (OK, three, hehe), were always up high. He did the only thing he could do in order to get in to play.

Wish so bad Di Natale had put one of those chances away early in the 2nd half. Would have made for a great last half hour. As it were it was about as boring a 30 minutes of soccer as I've ever watched. At least until Torres came on.

Balotelli really didn't have a chance to get much done after his performance in the Semis. He showed that he can be a threat at any level, and I think Spain came in with respect for that and locked him down. I'd wager that he also felt a bit of pressure, even if he does have a ginormous set. He didn't look like Swagotelli out there, but he didn't really have a chance. I think when he matures a bit, which I can see happening, he could be one of the biggest threats on the pitch.

Oh, I agree. That's why I said it wasn't really his fault. With that said though I think it's hard to say "he looked good" when he didn't really have a chance to do anything.

Alba's goal came from Italy catnapping, they weren't even in a position to draw a straight red.

am i the only one that remembers balotelli being a few inches from netting the equalizing header? i guess so,
he head the ball up really well in traffic in the first half. im not gonna count the last 30 minutes against him, he didn't have a chance to do anything

Spain played fantastic and were a better side but let's not turn this thread into a fishing tale. While we're recalling Xavi's miss and -- I think it was Alba-- who messed up a good chance we may do well to remember a couple of rips Cassano and Montolivo had at goal.
In our hypothetical world had all those chances been finished it may have been 4-2 Spain when Di Natale missed that open header from a few yards out and still the same scenario.
Spain created more chances but I'm not sure this idea that Italy didn't have a few of their own in the first half too is coming from.
