The value of these kit deals have exploded over the last couple of years. United's deal with Adidas set a new precedent when it was agreed. A lot of big money deals have followed. Seems like the timing of City's deal was unfortunate.

Apart from the Daily Mail literally having a story up from May 11, 2016 saying Nike was going to be the next supplier and would pay the release from contract to Adidas for the club, yeah, I guess it was just a rumor.

it was. Before United signed with Adidas, before the 2015 season I believe, they were getting 23 mil a year from Nike. Jumping up to the 75 mil or whatever was a huge jump and that set the bar. Unfortunately for City, they signed a pretty lengthy deal and did so back in 2012.
I still think we have two-years left on that deal as well.
