And Steve Bruce. No more five man back line and other weird formations that don't fit our talent. I've always thought we are a 4-2-3-1 fit.

Wow. Time to bump this thread. Trippier, Guimarães, Wood, Targett, Burn. We aren't going down and have yet to see what Bruno can do. Eddie Howe seems stuck on Shelvey, Willock, Joelinton who are all playing well, especially Joelinton. Hope Wilson gets better soon because Wood is having trouble getting going.

I am impressed with the savvy Newcastle is slowly building their squad rather than spending like a sailor come into port.

I’d love to see such a historical team come back to relevance.

I agree. Guimarães is the only one who hasn't seamlessly integrated into the team, and he is arguably the best transfer. We overpaid for Wood but that has the double effect of filling in a gap for Wilson while depriving a relegation rival of their striker when he is most needed. Trippier was a bargain.

They two matches have been very impressive considering there was no Trippier or ASM.

Another big win for the Magpies today. Long stretch away from SJP. Next home game is April 8th. Let's see what can be done to get more points and climb the table

I’m done with United. I’ve been a fan for 10+ years and the Glazers continue to mismanage the team.

Talk to me about the Magpies. I like their historical relevance and the fact that Mike Ashley sold.

Why should I root for them?

1. Newcastle is a beautiful city on the Tyne and North Sea that played a historic role in the history of the country. I want to visit and do a bike trek along Hadrian's wall (they have a bike route to runs to the Atlantic) and go to a game.
2. Historic, beautiful, and unique St. James Park that lies in the heart of the city with beautiful downtown views.
3. Great passionate fan base that reminds me of the Packers/Chiefs type fans (and sometimes Eagles fans). Used to be best homefield advantage in EPL until Mike Ashley tore the heart out of the team.
4. Great traditions/history/nicknames: The Toon, Geordies, Howay The Lads, Magpies.
5. Great team (ancient) history (four EPL and six FA Cup titles) and players like Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan.

Other than winning tGoatship twice during my fandom time the bolded part is my favorite. I also liked the excitement around the team when Sheared and Owen were up top.

All good stuff - thanks guys. Also, how do you feel about Howe so far? I always felt he was a good coach who could do a lot better if he had more talent.

How's his system and tactics playing out so far?

Howe has completely revitalized the careers of Joelinton and Shelvey and has turned the back line from garbage to an asset w/ Trippier, Burn, and Taggert. We get Botman and a quality striker in the summer window, look out.

Played pretty well despite the loss. Importantly, Norwich lost today.

Looked at the table, and it’s crazy how congested the bottom half is.

Newcastle needs 10 more points with ten games to play to guarantee staying up. It sounds easy but they still have Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Wolves, Man City, and Leicester City to play.

We got cheated out of a penalty kick. Jacob Murphy was pulled to the ground from behind in the box. That's probably another point right there. We should get Wilson and Trippier back for the end and stay up though.

Eight games left, +9 points on 18th place Watford. More than 3 points in the next three games (all home, Wolves, LC, CP) is wishful thinking, but three should be enough to hold off a dark slide.

Our defense got shredded today, but we really need more scoring and a true striker. Callum Wilson is just too injury prone. We need a CB and a striker in a big way.

Going to the Wolves match on Friday, I’ll bring my LSU football luck as we went 1-5 in games I attended last season

I imagine SJP was rocking!

Seven more points to go with seven games remaining. Much more doable after tonight's result.
