Wasn't Ballack ripping on the Danes with Lalas giving them a chance before the game? Now that Denmark won, it seems Ballack is talking them up while Lalas isn't giving them a chance anymore.

So dissappointed with the oranje, van persie was terrible in front of goal, and I'm very skeptical of affellay being subbed off. He was one of the brighter players while he was on the field.
Snjieder was brilliant, just no finishing...

Sneijder was a BOSS out there. Too bad you caught Van Persie on an off day and Robben on well...any day.

Ballack is laughing his arse off inside (Lalas mentioned the Netherlands again, and he had to fight off a shite eating grin).

Nederland need to beat Portugal and hope for a draw/win over Germany and hope 4 points is enough to advance.
Most interesting scenario is this:
Germany 6 points entering final game, Dutch 0 points, Portugal and Denmark both with 3 points. If Dutch beat Portugal the final game and somehow Germany still manages to defeat Denmark in a pointless game we have three teams even on 3 points each. Goal differential time

Head to head is the first tie breaker.

3 teams have all beaten each other
portugal over denmark
denmark over dutch
dutch over portugal

denmark over dutch
dutch over portugal

Robben on any day
Robben wasn't the problem at all in this game, he had a bunch of great entry passes to RvP. But he also had the usual ill advised shots, but that's what you get with him, and I (a die hard oranje fan) love what robben does on the field.

both wings tactically killed the dutch.
Affelay and Robben refusing to make passes to the center, or send in a cross, or a chip forward.
Something the manager must work out.

Affelay

not saying he didn't. first half he was their best player.
just that the way both wings are the striker and attacking mid never got involved in play. it's alright to have one winger with a propensity for dribbling and drifting/cutting central to attack, but having both?

Sorry, miss read what you were getting at

all good.
I could very see it playing out close to that. Germany could beat the Dutch next match. Germany is very good, they could very well defeat Denmark resting key players and not giving their absolute best effort either.
Dutch only hope would be to keep the Germany game very close, and hope Germany beats up on Portugal and Denmark by multiple goals.

But having both?
It was working very well, if RvP finishes the chances that robben, Snjieder, and affellay created, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

mainly Sneijder. What I'm getting at is the wings need to be responsible for more distribution. Sure RVP missed 2 great chances, one a rebound I believe he shot wide left, and the other a horrid touch from a Sneijder pass just right of the goal.
With RVP, VDV, and Sneijder all central those guys can score some goals, having the wings feed it centrally, or drop it off to the middle would help with more scoring chances I believe.

I would really like to see Robben return to taking people down the line and crossing with his right foot, like he did when he was at Chelsea.
But, the wings are able to create a lot of chances cutting in and distributing to a central player making an overlapping run. That's what total football is all about, free flowing. Sneijder made that run a couple of times that I saw, but was never picked out.
