You could've stopped here:

the nail in the coffin

That goal put Chelsea into the final in a season where they had been seriously down. It is fitting that after all of the work that Torres has done in the last 2 months, and with his greatly improved form, that his luck would change.

Ok so Nando cost 50 Million, Chelsea expect to be in the Champions league every year. So correct me if I'm wrong but if they don't qualify for the Champions League next year by winning in Munich or finishing top 4 then has he cost them 100 million? (50 million price tag + 50 million in lost champions league revenue)

Expectations went way down this year. The team looked like shite 2 months ago, and now we're in the Final. How would the purchase of Torres cost us from getting into the CL next year? If we don't get there, who's to say that we would have if we purchased a different striker or didn't spend at all?

Well obviously it is VERY hypothetical. But I would argue that pressure to play an incredibly out of form Torres thereby upsetting Drogba and the rest of the old guard was probably what cost Chelsea the title last year and Ancolotti his job. I think that Torres has continued to be a big problem for AVB and now to a lesser extent as he's finally started to play better for RDM. He's gotten a lot of minutes, something like 25 hours without scoring in the EPL. I can argue that just about any striker in the EPL has had an equal or better strike rate than him, including Heskey

And while theres no guarantee the money would have been better spent on another striker for that kind of money you could have afforded just about anybody in the world outside of Messi and CR7. I think had AVB just invested in Lukaku this season he probably would have been more effective than Torres has.

He scored 3/31/12 against Villa.

I was watching. Before that he hadn't scored in 25 hours on the pitch in the EPL.

Well, that's not what you said. Messi hasn't scored in ANY game where he didn't score. Who gives a shite. The man banged one home with everyone including Chelsea fans wondering how he was going to miss.

It was a great moment. Hopefully he can build on it.

I just took exception to people saying that he repaid his transfer fee. If anything I think he's cost Chelsea a lot more than his transfer fee. thats all.

Go back to celebrating. It will be great to see one of the English teams in the final again.

I think we all know that he hasn't produced his fee. However, as bad as he's been, and as bad as this team was a couple of months ago, we will enjoy this moment and forget the past. We bought him to score goals to beat Barca and today, that is what he did.

That goal didn't put them in the final. I feel like you don't understand the "nail in the coffin" metaphor. At the moment he scored what were the odds Chelsea was going to win? 98%? 99%? Add that to the fact absolutely any striker would have scored in that situation and you have my confusion as to the redemption narrative. Cool moment for him for sure but everyone is going overboard.

Probably. What was the percentage after the goal? 100? That's a NAIL IN THE COFFIN!!!!!

Dude...that goal was in fact the "nail in the coffin."

Would Chelsea have won without the goal? Probably. But once Torres scored, that was the nail in the coffin.

No. Midfield line kept him on.

It looked like he was offside, but it doesn't matter, Barcelona brought this debacle upon themselves, and deserved to lose.

C'mon Dandy, you know you can't be offside in your own half. For being all high and mighty, you sure fricked that up. Now we know the shite you spew is really nonsense.
