Either Liverpool or Newcastle United.

I've already told her that if she roots for Man U, the wedding is off. Who should I steer her towards and how? Remember, I'll probably end up casually supporting them as I wait for my beloved Leeds to regain their rightful place at the middle of the EPL table. Help a bear out.

city. you have to hate man u to be a fan. on the rise. carlos tevez, silva, adam johnson, the amazing toure bros.

What about Bolton??

2 main reasons: Stuart Holden

Lancashire & Manchester derbies (they have like 7-8 EPL rivalries given the area those 2 regions encompass). Sort of like how London clubs get to experience several different derbies.

eta: 3 reasons, actually. Kevin Davies racks up an insane amount of fouls for a striker.

Is it wrong that reading Moore is a fan bugged me more than Bin Laden?

I still think I might stick with Arsenal. Call me bandwagon, but going with the 1 of the big 4 will be the best way for me really to get into European soccer more. I don't want to be the guy that pulls for ManU. Liverpool appears to be in disarray. I really don't like John Terry and I would appear to be a super bandwagon fan to pull for the current EPL champions.

ETA: I know not big 4, but Man City might be in the running. After seeing the list of players, and remembering that a couple friends like city, I might have to consider them.

Arsenal has been the perfect bandwagon team for the past several years. No trophies, attractive play, great transfer dramas, deep champions league runs, with enough wins to keep stringing us along, a good bunch of self-deprecating fans on this board.

We get to have a chip on our shoulder and a mild sense of superiority. Best of both worlds.

Bolton's a good call. The Lancashire thing will bother me as a former Yorkshire resident, but I can get over that. Newcastle would be a good call if I wasn't a Leeds fan. Why would I want for the otehr team that overspent in the 90s and got relegated... only to bounce back quicker than us? (I don't hate Newcastle as much as a Leeds fan should, but they do sort of irritate me because they didn't suffer as much as we did)

The key here is convincing her to root for them. Man City also works. The hatred of Man U is definitely appealing. And they are getting real good. also, she's gotten into Argentina and I can sell her on Tevez. I've got a hook there.

ETA: Or I just say, "screw it" and root for Barca. Anti-fascist, Messi, not English... lots of things going for them. Even if I would feel like a bandwagoner. But I've always rooted for Barca in Champions League (mainly to spite Man U... its hard to describe how much I hate them)

Really? Why is that? As a neutral fan, I've always viewed Barca as sort of the "good guys" of the superclubs. Certainly when compared to Man U and anyone from Italy.

buying Henry, courting and likely buying Cesc

not to mention they pried away Gio van Bronckhorst and Aleksander Hleb (not so much of a loss...but still, at the time it was worrying).

being beaten by them 3 times at crucial stages of the CL

Oh, OK. See, in my eyes, screwing with Arsenal is a positive. I don't hate them like I hate Man U, but I don't think I could ever root for them. Of the Big Four, though, they are probably the least objectional to me. I'd rather Arsenal or Chelsea than Liverpool or Man U. But I don't root for any of the Big Four.

Friggin' Leeds. Remember when we were good?

Certainly. I loathe Man U. I hate Liverpool. I merely dislike Arsenal and Chelsea (but, honestly, thats more jealousy). As a Leeds fan and former Yorkie, I am not going to root for the team that represents Lancashire. That would be like a Southerner supporting the Yankees. War of the Roses and all that.
