-Format is 8 groups of 3 teams each. Group winners progress to quarterfinals and will be ranked and seeded for knockout round. Knockout round will take place well after MLS season is over to continue favoring Mexican sides.

I wish CONCACAF champions league was an even playing field. People shite all over MLS about it but our teams are forced to play knockout rounds during the off season. When RSL played Monterray in the finals, their budget was 5 mil compared to 35 mil for the Mexican side. Even if the budgets were equal the playing field is still stacked in the Mexicans favor.

It'd be quite tough for Toronto, Montreal and teams like New England to play in the winter if they moved to a normal FIFA schedule.

The average temperatures in December, January and February for London are all in the mid-40s.
The same ranges for Toronto, which has an outdoor stadium, are 31, 25 and 27.
These Canadian teams and Northeastern teams have to deal with a lot more snow than England does, too.

I'm sure people make that argument, but the MLS end of the season and the playoffs are in the smack middle of football season in the U.S. There's already going to be competition.
Moving to a standard calendar would mean your postseason would compete against the beginning of baseball and the end of basketball.

Agreed. I'm not going to pretend there won't be some shitty weather here and there but that's the nature of playing an outdoor sport. Baseball has rainouts. If it's a winter blizzard then you just make the game up. If it's just snowing then invest in a plow and clear the field off and let's play.

I agree in general the calendar should be changed, but the overlap with football in the fall does genuinely worry me for attendance. Maybe those fears are ill-placed, but I would have to imagine attendance would suffer in certain places of the country.
