re: Match Day 3/7 Leeds v Wolves
Juve always wins the league, they want Europe and one result isn't going to cause them to change their entire season outlook and if it does their manager needs to be fired.

Also, I love Italians.

But still, suggesting Higuian and Dybala would not have played this game with Mandzukic injured is a bit of a stretch, even if the argument is contingent upon Napoli winning against Roma.

You can debate all you want, for Some teams in Europe, League/League cup>>>>>>>>>Euro cup

Juventus is still in Copa italia, still in heated battle with Napoli, and are flawed and can't win Champions league.

Napoli loss gave them some breathing room to go for it in 2nd leg.

So believe what you will, i've watched them put out B teams in Champions League play.

Whoever mentioned Wolves should be up 4-5 goals, thanks

Went and caught them on live line to win rest of regulation(1-0 at the time). Easy winner. That and Juve +250 made my day.

Have we not learned from Leicester's odds, like I'm tempted to go drop $100 on Besiktas at those odds just in the off chance they do something crazy and get a crazy good draw

ETA: Well aware they're down 5-0 to Bayern, but still stranger things have happened

Which games in the knockout phase have they put out a B team under Allegri?

Yeah, Juventus is such a small team that they can only focus on two tournaments at the most.

re: Match Day 3/7 Leeds v Wolves
I went back and looked at the lineups for CL knockout games for Juventus under Allegri, going back to 2014-2015. They didn't seem to field a B side in any one of them that I could see. If Allegri started the game without Higuain or Dybala and with Mandzukic injured, that would have created a massive shitstorm. You don't concede an even tie halfway through to focus on the league. That would be akin to willingly giving up a revenue stream that's already provided them with 23 million Euros, and now that they are in the QF, that will add 6.5 million Euros to that number. In contrast, winning the league would net them around 13 million Euros. This isn't even adding the market pool share of CL TV distribution rights, which would would all go to Juventus since they are the only Italian club in the knockout phase. That figure alone made them 50 million Euros in the 2016-17 CL, and moving on would give them similar numbers this season. A loss this lead to a hit to revenues that would be upwards of 25-30 million, revenues they could not make up in Italy alone. It would be utterly asinine to concede a game by not playing two strikers, one of whom cost three/fourth's of the total prize money they earned last season in Serie A.

And that they are seemingly deep enough to compete in three competitions makes it an even weirder contention that what Napoli does in the league would have any bearing on what Juventus does in the CL. If Napaoli won against Roma, they would have been four points ahead of Juventus while Juventus has a match in hand. If they didn't start Dybala or Higuian, and were knocked out, there wouldn't be a net benefit to resting either player, as if they won their match in hand, they would still be one point behind, with the Napoli game there to essentially win the title. The logic doesn't make any sense, and the shitstorm that would have been created by willingly conceding a CL tie, would have been massive.

I don't deny the importance placed on domestic trophies by Juventus, but it's straight up an idiotic suggestion that they could have rested either striker, let alone keep one or both of them at home. If they seriously considered that, considering the money on the line in the CL made up 25% of their total revenue for 2017, then the directors and Allegri should be fired, because there isn't a justification. It's frankly a really retarded suggestion.

Chelsea at 40-1 is really tempting. We are currently playing like a garbage can of a club, but we are capable of stellar performances.

Who said Allegri has fielded a B side???? I said Juventus have fielded B sides before in CL. Hell, they fielded a borderline C team against Arsenal in Turin, and smoked Arsenal.

Red Bulls win last night, was 1st time an MLS had won in Mexico in knock out rounds.

They were 0-5-25 going into the match. Now 1-5-25 Crazy numbers.

Who else would decide to bench one or both of his starting strikers? You think Juventus would make that decision based on history or something? I'm suggesting that the notion that Juventus would have benched one or both of their starting strikers because of what happens in the league is retarded, and would make no sense, even if Napoli won the game against Roma.

quote:

I said Juventus have fielded B sides before in CL.

So have Arsenal, in the group stage. But fielding a B side in the knockout phase is pretty much unheard of. And sitting your starting strikers in a knockout match in the CL while you have a game-in-hand on the leaders of the league is also unheard of.

quote:

Hell, they fielded a borderline C team against Arsenal in Turin, and smoked Arsenal.

In the intermediate Group stage in 2001, after Juventus were beaten by Arsenal, Leverkusen and Deportivo, and weren't going to move on. That has no relevance to this discussion.

The point at hand is this: you suggested that Napoli's loss against Roma had a bearing on this match, in that if Napoli won, Dybala or Higuain would have sat this match. I've told you why this was a retarded suggestion. Stay on point.

Would be interesting to know what Porto's odds were back in 2004 when the chosen one was still the chosen one and not a Portugese speaking version of Roy Hodgson.

Nah, focused on a clean 5-0 aggregate and not giving up 2 goals at home to Basel. Atmosphere must have been electric.

Europe is terrified.
