The move with RVP as captain was to be expected. I'm sure Rooney will care, but he should still know his value to the team, given his salary of $300k quid per week

Well, it's not official yet. It's down to Rooney, RvP and Carrick though. LvG really likes Carrick.

In the end, RvP or Rooney will be captain and I'll be fine with either. Wazza has already said he would love to be captain but will not have an issue with RvP being given the role.

Oh, and Hummels.

Evra to Juventus confirmed. Hopefully he is part of a Vidal deal.

I just don't see that happening...I'd love to see him sign but my gut says he's staying put. I want Hummels more than anything

Been good, but I got tired of him not getting back on defense, especially last season.

Okay, I misread that earlier post then. I hadn't seen an announcement.

Yeah, I've seen reports that LVG may delay appointing a captain until Carrick comes back from injury. Thought this was interesting considering he's generally seen as having a mild personality in the dressing room

Man, I hope this is true. The only major source to make the announcement so far is Sport, a Spanish paper. Apparently, no German papers have confirmed, and Bild has said it has no information on it.

Cheers to Pat. He's been a loyal player and ambassador to the club. He's on a 2-year deal apparently.

Would be ecstatic over a deal for Hummels, but I really want Vidal more. Midfield is the top priority in my eyes.

Basically my thoughts as well. I doubt he gets it but his importance can't be overstated.

If we get Hummels, that is all we seriously need before the start of season. Another Cb or CM or outside back or Outside mid/ winger would be nice, but i think CB is our biggest issue at this point

If the price being reported is true Dortmund gave zero fricks and had been ready to offload him.

I'm nowhere near ready to ride with this crop of CMs with Carrick injured.

true. have forgot about the carrick injury.

More was saying i think a CB like Hummels can make the other three serviceable.

But yea need a cm too.

Some cover at LB will be important now too with Evra gone. The only true senior LB we have at this point is a 19-year-old. A very good 19-year-old, but if he were to get hurt it would be a problem. Would have to slide someone over out of position.

Fabio was sold during the winter window, and Buttner was sold to Dynamo Moscow earlier this window. So, I would expect us to sign someone else. Maybe the thought is if we sign Vermaelen he could play in the center or on the left if need be.

I think that'd be the plan. Arsenal people could tell us if he's worth a shite on the left. I know he played there some for them but was mostly a CB I believe. Rafael has played LB for us before as well.

If we sign de Vrij along with Hummels, I'll be very happy with our back line.

he's played on the left with varying degrees of success. he's not much different than any other CB stuck out playing wide. pacy players could get the best of him, but in some matches he worked pretty well. don't think he loves it and i certainly wouldn't recommend it other than in an emergency. not good enough there to be your primary backup.
