Looking at the FIFA World Cup squad ages.

Looks like the generation of players born in the 1970s just had their last hurrah.
Being born in 1979 lands you at about 35, while one's career has some years left, most have retired internationally. Looking at the other end of the spectrum, in Russia '18 will be the first wave of 90s players to make the bulk of most national teams as those of the 80s will form the "upperclassmen"
Also, being 2018, we could see the debut of the first World Cup player born after 2000.
stats for 2014
Oldest player: Faryd Mondragón b June 21st 1971 (Colombia)
Youngest player: Fabrice Olinga b May 12th, 1996 (Cameroon)
Anyone feel old yet?

The generational shift will be noticeable in quality.

I doubt a 17 year old makes a squad. Now, there could be an 18 year old who was born in 2000.
