Passing ability is amazing. He also gives credit for assists (I guess that's what they're called)when due. I like it.

ETA: Any good video of his defensive/tackling ability would be great.

Anyone would love to have Gerrard in their team

Ultimate compliment. My boy seems to have chosen well.

Any idea how much longer Gerrard will play? I'm thinking a trip to good ol' England is in order.

There are arguments that our attacking mindset leaves the defense sort of stranded. Brendan throws his fullbacks (outside defensive players) forward into attack, and many games Gerrard is left by himself as the only defensive midfield player. While Suarez and Sturridge's attacking prowess have nothing to do with how well out center backs play, allowing both fullbacks, Henderson, Allen, Sterling and Coutunho to attack does leave Gerrard on an island in the midfield. It's why we played so poorly against Aston Villa and Fulham. Brendan was basically playing a 4-1-4 with attacking fullbacks.

Quite akin to the HUNH I hear.

That was a great result.

We've really struggled with Southhampton the last few years. And the best part was, we did it playing their game by flooding the midfield more than usual in the first half. Signs of a top team, imo. Win our way. Win their way.

Some luck was invovled, but we also did a better job of finishing our chances.

Gotta like our positioning for top 4. And I won't call ourselves second - not with Man City having two games in hand and being only two points behind.

I'd go quick.

If I had to guess, this will be his last year as an automatic starter. With the World Cup this summer, he wont get much of a break, and while I suspect he'll start the majority of our games next year, he may be subbed off in a good number of them.

Can't be behind the second to last defender at the time the ball is kicked. The goalkeeper is considered one of the defenders and is typically the last defender.

I feel like we don't give up many goals off the counter, but I could be wrong. It seems like they mostly come off free kicks or just general bad positioning.

Think of the second to last defender being the line of scrimmage. You can't be past the line of scrimmage in football when the ball is hiked. In soccer, you can't be past the second to last defender (line of scrimmage) when a pass is made to them. It's a very rough analogy that serves to explain the concept to football fans.

Yeah, I liked the diamond midfield today.. But it did leave our fullbacks without any protection...

I thought we go back to a 4-3-3 when Sterling came on, but he just replaced Cou as the #10 and was pretty damn effective

Also, Gerrard had a difficult time with Llana

Anyone have an opinion on how Aspas did? I really didn't notice him at all.

It was a great finish. Shot to the opposite side if the keeper's momentum.

Yeah I didn't notice him either. Didn't have many minutes but he did have enough time to do something.

I think all he had to do was not shoot directly at the keeper. I don't think he makes the save if Sterling goes far post.

I didn't even notice Aspas was on the field until after Gerrard's PK.

So when you say 4-3-3, it starts from goalie forward. Opposite football. Correct?

Llana is a stud. Very impressed with how he played.
