While I am not as enthused about FSG as I was a couple of years back. I think there is a chance they might get it right. It will however take considerable trial and error. The question is wether the general fans will have that kind of patience.
SOS is really a knee-jerk band of fans but they have the best interests of the club in mind. I do agree with one thing they had to say. The club needs a proper CEO who is well versed in all matters football and can run the club in their absence on the other side of the pond.
I can certainly understand this, but I do like the fact that they've learned from last year's spending, and they've recognized that we needed to cut wages and get younger if we want to sustain long term success. Truth is, FSG were never gonna come in and shell out the cash like City and Chelsea have, so we have to get better the old fashion way and hope good tactics, skill, and teamwork get us by. No doubt not signed another attacker was a big mistake, but it's better than wasting money like we did before on someone who wasn't as much of a sure thing. I know we have other issues on the depth chart, but I think we've got some young guys that can develop and help cover lack of depth at LB and throughout the midfield. As it looks right now, I wouldn't mind us concentrating all our efforts on signing at least 1 quality forward.

Agreed. We have plenty of midfield talent right now and a good defense. I'd rather see us spend £20m on a really good forward than £5m on an average forward, £5m on a LB and £5m on another midfielder.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Selling Carroll could definitely help fund more acquisitions, but it's no doubt what our one glaring need is. Although if Gerrard keeps struggling in the system and our lack of creativity stays down, we could also use a natural, creative AM. Someone in the mold of an Iniesta, Silva, Mata, Cazorla, Ozil, etc. I know getting someone that quality would be next to impossible, but basically if you can see the trend, maybe we should take a look into La Liga.

Nuri could play AM (I think he has the skill set), but his problem is he has the same tendencies Gerrard has in regard to coming deep to gain possession and dictating play from the back. At least that's what I gather from what I've seen of him. Is that what you've got from watching him also Beast?

I think he is better when he's played in a deeper position.
I know everyone is kind of down on Stevie g at the moment but keep in mind he hasn't been healthy enough to really find form the last few seasons and is probably low on confidence at the moment. Give him time, I'm not convinced he can't play the same role that sigurdson played for Rodgers at Swansea.
With Lucas out y'all don't really have any tackler in midfield. Not sure that Allen, Gerrard and Sahin is the best mixture in midfield.

I agree with this. But I guess I should elaborate more on the AM I was talking about earlier. I think Gerrard, Sahin, and Allen have all shown to be great distributors in the midfield, but we lack creativity with having someone that can dribble and help create. We know Suarez has the skill and Sterling's proving to be a huge potential asset on the wing, but I just think we still could use someone patient, and able to help break down organized defenses with dribbling, attracting defenders, and delivering that killer pass. I still love Gerrard and think he needs to be on the field to work, but he's just too direct for this role in this system.

While I would rather Lucas be the holding mid, I think that Allen can fill that role. He's played that position every match since Lucas got injured and has been the most impressive player on the pitch in every one of those games IMO
Also, I've got to get in on this thread more with all the new guys

I don't think he's quite as attacking minded as Gerrard (as we saw when he hesitated to pull the trigger from just outside the box - Gerrard wouldn't have thought twice about it), and you are correct, he plays a bit deeper and likes to dictate play. Definitely not saying he can't go forward, he proved at Dortmund that he could do that.
I think a big problem we had against Arsenal was that Sahin really didn't know his role too well. Without Lucas, we lack a ball winner and Sahin needs to hustle back on counter attacks. If you rewatch both goals, Nuri was the deepest in midfield when the ball was lost and he was caught jogging back in defense.

Agreed. The only problem is that Lucas is the only ball winner we have in our squad (in the midfield). Allen-Gerrard-Sahin is the best option we have in terms of quality. I think if Gerrard can maintain possession a bit better, our lack of a traditional "destroyer" (Lucas) won't bite us as much as it does when Gerrard gives possession up easily (see: Arsenal's first goal). If Gerrard doesn't improve by the time Lucas comes back, I think Henderson is a much better option.

Nailed it. I think we would be much more proficient and efficient if our AM was patient. Rodgers said it best in a recent interview:
quote:
We're still getting the balance in a couple of areas of our game. We build the game very well through the thirds, but it's about making sure that when we arrive in the final third, if we can't find the moment to score straight away, we maybe have to have that wee bit more patience.

Those Scots and their prolific use of the word "wee." So strange.

He uses it a lot.
Anyone have an LFC subscription? Worth it? I've been contemplating it for a while.

I actually welcomed us not spending truckloads on the last day of the window. I hate panic spending. I think this window has done a world of good from a psychological point of view. The management and Brendan have made it clear that LFC will not overpay on transfer fee or on wages. That is a positive to me and other than the forwards we have improved our skill levels in pretty much all parts of the pitch (dunno what has happened to Pepe lately).
I think FSG are trying to prove the system wrong. They are trying to buck the modern trend of spending huge sums of money on football clubs. They believe that they are smart enough to do it. But they have made some very shitty decisions. Not hiring a new CEO, backing Comolli and Kenny with crazy transfers, firing Kenny, not moving at all on the stadium.
Or I could be completely wrong and they are just a bunch of gamblers set to destroy my dearly beloved Liverpool Football Club.

Semi-hijack: I was over on the SEC Rant and noticed the thread on Sam L Jackson and his affiliation with UGA football. I had thought I remembered seeing him in the ESPN booth as a Vol fan and I started googling around and came across this
Seems like he may be a bandwagon jumper so I am sure he is on to Barca or Citeh now but I thought it was interesting.

Jackson: I watch Tiger a lot. I like Derek Jeter, I watch him to see if he maintains his level of excellence. And, you know what, there are a lot of really good soccer players in the world that deserve a whole lot of respect. I watch a lot of different soccer teams, particularly Liverpool. When I was over there, I got a whole soccer bug.

Samuel L Jackson has been a Liverpool fan since he filmed "51st Street" in Liverpool. He doesn't seem like a bandwagon jumper. He has been seen at LFC games regularly. He even went to the Avengers premiere wearing a LFC shirt. Just Clarifying.
