I may be hating on ATL here, but it will more than likely be good for a month then be bare in the stands afterwards. I am not expecting much from that club.

I will bet you literally any amount of money that they will have one of the top attendance and season ticket figures in the MLS (we can even exclude the first home game).

this shite is utterly retarded
we have english-speaking fans who are influenced by the biggest league in the world, who not only shares copious cultural overlaps with America but also speaks, you know, english. so copying that is Euro-centric?
and how are the cheers that difference from what Latin American teams do? it's not much different
and of course we're "racist" when we don't like our national team's biggest rivals, who are all latino. OF COURSE

I like how it doesn't occur to him to ask why the immigrants from Central and South America stay loyal to their own countries and teams instead of adopting the soccer practices of lily-white soccer fans in the US (USMNT, MLS).
yeah this is the biggest fail of the article
they stay loyal for a lot of reasons and i don't think any reasons include "because the gringos are using EPL cheers and 2 clubs have 2 incidents of racism so frick them". this loyalty creates the real divide and it's not due to anything the gringos have done. it's just a choice of the latino immigrant class
what this article does is racist as shite, as usual, b/c it takes away any and all agency from the marginalized ethnic group. the writer is assuming that they are too simple/stupid to make a rational choice and it MUST be because of how the oppressive gringo dominant culture has affected them
this is a great example of the soft bigotry of lowered expectations

Exactly. Its about Nationalism. Not racism.
and the ultimate irony is that pretty much all central and south american teams HATE mexico
how that doesn't stop them from being "anti-US" in USNT v. Mexico games, but they aren't really cheering for the tri

So a super liberal, white-hating Asian SJW writes nonsense about white people in the US liking soccer in a more European rather than Hispanic way, implies it's racist, and the NYT allows it? Why am I not surprised.
RT, it's so fricked up us European Americans are just white racists and heaven forbid we lean to cultures of our ancestors, yet every other race is fricking oppressed?
And like the poster above said, central and South Americans don't even like Mexicans.

I guess Asian fans wearing Kobe jersies in China need to stop appropriating American culture. Racists.

It's a rag. Not surprisingly they published this libelous garbage.
You sir, are 100% correct.
The "writer" is your typical regressive SJW with white guilt. Those are some of the worst people.

He's asian lol.
The total soccer show podcast tore this guy a new one. He went to a Seattle game and didn't bother to mention their gay pride celebration with the captain's armband being rainbow colored. Tell me what those progressive central americans would think about that one
Something along the lines of "puto," methinks.
