This was the feeling since 2006, or at least that's when I first started to get that impression.

ETA: Admittedly I have been out of the loop for at least 4 years on and off since that time, so his image might have gotten better.

he is really only there to be controversial and in-your-face despite if there is a reason to be.

Yeah, except most of his 'controversial' stances of late have been pretty fricking common sense. It was a huge 'controversy' when he didn't pick the US to get out of the Group of Death, and he said so to the players' faces. That's honesty, good punditry, and a totally reasonable stance.

What is a concern for me is that Alexi, to me, is as good as it gets covering MLS. Who is going to fill that role for ESPN? Twellman, I guess, but Alexi has a much stronger grasp on the business side of the league, having led front offices. Taylor scored a bunch of goals and talks about strikers making runs, and that's about it.

ETA: If Stubear's knees never get better, maybe he'll get some more play. He's great.

Well, you posted in this thread, then edited your post, so if you DGAF, you need to get a life and spend time on things you actually do GAF about.

The fricking trolls on this board, I swear.

Maybe controversial is too hard of a word, but he is there to be the blunt guy that tells the truth. He plays that role really well, like when he told the USMNT he didn't think they were going to advance, or when he pushes the MLS (I don't mind this at all) even when comparing to BPL teams. Like I said I don't hate the guy, but it's always been my understanding that he was widely hated more than liked.

Isn't that what the media is supposed to do?

I think there are media personalities that tell the truth and do it in manner that most can relate to, and then there are, for lack of the better word Simon Cowell type personalities, that add a little extra to leave an impression of douchieness.

But if Alexi really does believe the things he says (which I honestly think he does), why should he sugar coat it?

ETA: the fact that their "godfather offer" was for Lalas and not Darke or Ley is pretty telling in terms of the type of coverage fox is going for. Which I hate. But if you like it then this is great news for you for the next two WC's I guess

Agree. They are solid, Lalas is reactionary. Sounds sorta like..............Fox.

There is a reason I love NBCSports coverage of BPL. No poo flinging reactionary saying outlandish things. Lalas is not my cup of tea.
