I personally don't really give a shite about diving as much as everyone else. Simulation is simulation, and there shouldn't be a continuum of worst dives. Is there such a thing as a good dive? Obviously in the parlance of those who are so morally opposed to it, no, which makes the distinction "worst" even more arbitrary and pointless. There is something such as a consistent diver, and we honestly don't have as much information on Cazorla to put him in that category yet.

I see diving as the small, technical players response to the stupid challenges we see week in and week out in the EPL. Let us say that Reid had connected with Cazorla. Look at his foot shape. What kind of tackle is that? Not only is he embarrassed by Cazorla's quick feet, the sweeping motion, with the toe of his boot searching for the ball, could cause serious injury.

I'm not saying anyone should dive, nor am I trying to defend simulation at all (what Busquets did in the Inter game 3 years ago and what Drogba did in the Barca game last spring are examples of simulation taken to the most terrible possible extent) but I think the response should be more measured. If we ban players who dive for three games, then we should ban players who break legs habitually for an appropriate amount of time as well. If we say that the latter is just part of the game, then how can we say that diving isn't? Of course, you can argue that there isn't a correlation between diving and injuries, but I'd argue that we will see more diving as the game continues to become technical, and small players are favored, and larger, slower players attempt to compensate with more physical play.

But obviously I would say that, since I am an Arsenal fan, and we have a history of some of the worst divers (or in the small sample size in the selective memory of certain people, we are the most egregious divers).

Yeah I'd love to just say "he was anticipating contact and moved his leg to protect himself" with red glasses on... But it's bullshite and I hate that more players aren't retroactively given a ban for it,

Santi should miss next week, suarez should've missed the game after stoke, jenkinson the game a month or two ago, bale should've missed half the season.

The only two things that will change players attitudes retrospective bans and giving players who stay on their feet penalties.

It really doesnt bother me that much... I'm not going to rant and rave about it... yeah, it pisses me off if it goes against my club for a PK... but I get just as pissed when we are fouled and dont get the call..

For the most part, a lot of players do it... some are better at the theatrics..
