Italy would quit Euros if asked

Saw this yesterday. I can't imagine it would happen but I think the coach is saying the right things.

What would they do with Italys spot? You can't have a group with 3 teams and its surely too late for a playoff for the teams that just missed qualification.

Its interesting to think about how Yugoslavia would do these days. I'd have to think they'd be amongst the favorites for the Euro.

Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia are all very strong on their own. Hell, even Macedonia(Pandev), Slovenia (Handanovic) and Montenegro (Vucinic) have some pretty strong players in their squad.

The former Yugoslavia was always a power to be reckoned with.

Talent out the wazoo, discipline and tactical problems, which were intermittent and varying in frequency and duration.

It was pretty awful display at times, particularly the second half with the substitutes. Those 2 goals Maggio and De Sanctis let in on the insane back pass and sloppy missed clearance where just depressing.

However, if there's room for optimism, it's that Bonucci was really the main problem in defense with every decent Russian chance when the first team was in and Chiellini will be back for Spain.

Also, Italy did create considerably more chances than Russia with the first team just didn't put them away. Balotelli played very well overall but should've finished a couple he didn't. Marchisio's miss was just unbelievable. . . etc etc etc

Also the fouls were something like Russia 30 to Italy's 7 which, to me, shows the Russians were putting a lot more effort into winning the ball and also committed quite a few cynical fouls whereas I got the idea that Pirlo, De Rossi etc were mainly trying to make smooth passes and not get hurt.


My concerns: it showed that Maggio hasn't really played as a "defender" at RB for Napoli as his defense was horrible. Wouldn't be surprised to see Abate replace him if. . .

Prandelli doesn't gamble big, unintended irony I'll let stand, and play a 3-5-2 even though they haven't really used it in friendlies.

Because:
the other problem is that a 4-3-1-2 with Montolivo and Balotelli and Cassano up top puts way too much pressure on the midfield defensively if none of those 3 are going to track back in the least.

I was referring to how they will say nothing if Spain wins, and if Italy wins; 'how the frick do little provinces like Asturias have two or three starters, and there are no Gallegos'?

If they're from La Coruña, I'm sure they'll go on about Fran till no end. If from the Atlantic coast, then Celta (and Salgado). These two are semi recent history of course, if they're older, then you're definitely in for a "treat" (Galicia has produced some greats).
