Alexi Lailas’ interview with GB for 28min.

Greg gives some good, albeit safe answers, but does hint into the determining factors regarding player selection. I think you can tell he strongly favors league strength as a big consideration, as in, little-to-average playing time in the EPL is over great play in the MLS.

He used Steffen and Johnson as an example stating that although Steffen wasn’t getting PT, the quality of training is still at a higher level.

Which is funny because Steffen has been terrible and Johnson has been solid in his limited minutes

I think it was more to suggest to the basic public, “we” shouldn’t make the false assumption that because we have the more immediate exposure to MLS highlights and such, that this would cause a recency bias toward selection. Meaning, just because Ferrera scores consistently for FC Dallas, or had a big game our last national team win, doesn’t mean Pefok should be automatically written off, even from average success in the Bundesliga.

I actually really appreciate that calculated approach, because that means he’s not falling for the hot-hand fallacy which is tempting. Thoughtful approach in my eyes.

Quality of training is more applicable to everyone but goal keepers

More chances for getting minutes in games still and high tempo intense practice

For goalies stopping shots in practice does not replace real match reps vs different players every week as opposed to guys who see all the time and learn their tendencies

Just put the 11 out there that gives you the best chance to win. Don’t care where they have played if they can’t play well with other USMNT players or don’t play well in Greg’s system.

Alexi:

"Why do you hate John Brooks?"

GGG:

(Uncomfortable laugh)

"It's nothing personal with John Brooks..."
