Inter fires Stramaccioni, expected to hire Mazzarri

So at this point, who hasn't been fired?

I posted this expected move some days ago in the summer transfer thread. It's been pretty obvious that Mazzarri's comments have made it obvious that his 4 year cycle at Napoli was over for months. The only question was where he'd go. For a while there was some question about whether it would be Inter or Roma but it's seemed Roma has been more set on convincing Allegri to come over from AC Milan.


I'm not sure how much of a move backwards for Napoli it is. De Laurentiis has certainly tried hard to convince Mazzarri to stay, offering to match any salary he could get elsewhere. But the key for Napoli is De Laurentiis. He has money and makes more almost everytime anyone of us goes to see a movie. He seems set on continuing to spend it to keep Napoli near the top of the league.


As far as Napoli "not being there" yet. I don't think they'll ever be there in the sense that Inter is but like, say, Dortmund to Bayern, they still have a pretty good thing going.

Word is that DeLa is pretty close to getting Rafa Benitez to come to Napoli. Rafa was a disaster at Inter but he's a solid manager and fans at Napoli will embrace him in a way that Inter never did after Mourinho.

If Napoli, as expected, gets a player like Dzeko as part of Cavani's parting from either City or Real Madrid, they'll take a slight step back as there will certainly be more roster moves in switching from Mazzarri's 3-5-2 system but still have a lot of quality aside from Cavani. The one player they can't lose is Hamsik. He's the lynchpin and seems absolutely committed.

As far as moving to Inter, I think it mainly just appeals to Mazzarri's ego to bring them back to the top. He's had nothing but success at every stop so far so it looks like a great move if they can stop making bad market decisions. A good question is whether Mazzarri (famous for valuing experience over potential) will stay committed some of their quality youngsters.

I say that because i'm an Milan fan and Mazzarri is a good manager.
