New Orleans has 1.1M people in its metro.
Atlanta has 5.5M.
The New Orleans metro population has been stagnant or shrinking for the past 40 years irrespective of Katrina.
Atlanta metro population has been one the fastest growing over the past 40 years. Trends for both cities look to continue.
New Orleans is home to one Fortune 500 company: Entergy.
Atlanta has an enormous corporate presence: the third largest number of Fortune 500 companies in the country, including Home Depot, Coca-Cola, Delta, AT&T, UPS, CNN, TBS, Cox Enterprises, Weather Channel, Georgia Pacific, Suntrust, Chick-Fil-A, etc.
New Orleans Airport has one international flight a day and serves 8.5M passengers a year.
Atlanta Airport has 85 international flights a day to over 50 countries and serves 95.5M passengers a year.
New Orleans has the Superdome and MLS has expressed a preference for not playing in domes.
Atlanta is preparing to build a $1B retractable roof stadium.
New Orleans' economy accounts for $13B a year.

No one has said that New Orleans was better. Even the guys who think Atlanta wouldn't work didn't even say that.

MLS soccer becoming part of the south is an evolving process. I can't think of another city that would offer better prospects than Atlanta. Perhaps Nashville and Raleigh-Durham would make it interesting but I don't think they can offer what Atlanta can offer.
Atlanta is probably not getting a club until at least five years from now. Garber sounds like he is fine with MLS at 20 for a while.

Because frick Atlanta, that's why.
In all seriousness, Atlanta is the best choice. There's no way NOLA can support a team right now, even if you loaded it with Hondurans. I need an MLS team to hate anyway...
