Yeah the 2006 WC was going to be his masterpiece, until Le Headbutt. It still gives me a sad thinking about it.

We definitely should turn this thread into the best highlight vids. I really wish I could find a good video of Wimbledon's goal against Milton Keynes in last years FA Cup. The history between the clubs, the magnitude of the competition, the fact that they were such underdogs......
When they hit the equalizer and the pitch invasion ensued I'd be lying if I said somebody wasn't cooking up some onions close by.

It was still his masterpiece, even with the coup de boule. I'm sure for France fans there's still a "what if" moment about whether or not France wins that final if he's still in it at the end, though.
I was in France for the knockouts of that tournament, and man, was that fantastic. Pretty much the moment I really fell in love with the sport. Thinking about the pleas of the French commentators, "Why Zidane? Why? Why now Zizou?" still upsets me. To this day France is my #2, and I don't have a #3. I also have his replica jersey from the final.

Maybe it was but France would have won it if he hadn't gone all Jean-Claude Van Damme. He really was fantastic that whole cup though.

How do you figure so definitively that France "would have won it"?

1. They were the better team when he was on the field.
2. He would have made a huge difference in the penalty shootout.

Maybe but you have no idea if they would have scored in the final 9 min. or not.

He's one taker out of five and anybody can miss a pen. Hell, he nearly missed the one he scored earlier in the match.

I never said they would win it in regulation.

When that 1 penalty taker is the best in the world it definitely does make a huge difference.

The "best in the world" really doesn't mean much in penalties. I could point out countless times where the best players in the world have missed penalties.

Its out there but it doesn't show the fans after they scored. Which was easily the best part. They went absolutely mental and rushed the pitch. It meant so much to them just to score. It was a really special moment.

I'm talking about the best penalty taker in the world. You're just an argumentative person aren't you?

You have any stats to back that up. Did you see his penalty earlier in that match?

Well when someone makes such a definitive statement of fact when in reality it's pure conjecture then yes I will argue it.

Yes I did and it was brilliant. It takes serious balls to chip it top shelf against the best goalkeeper in world, in the World Cup Final.

Holy shite are you serious? When making a statement about what COULD have been in the past it's always entirely conjecture. There's no stat in the world that could definitively prove that I'm right or wrong. So frick off.
