Honest question - why are soccer games such sausage fests?

I went to my first MLS game last month in Kansas City and I'd have to say that it was at least 80% guys. Probably 95% guys in the diehard fan sections.
Why is this the case do you suppose? During the world cup a couple of girls that I was dating were really into the games, and one even had a US soccer jersey. So why are actual game attendees all white dudes in their 20's and 30's? This seems to hold true on TV as well.
I realize that all sporting events have mostly male attendees but it seems like the NFL is closer to 65-35 and MLB and NBA are probably similar.

This is probably true of most sports. I know it's been that way at any football/rugby/basketball/baseball game that I've been to.

IMO...
Soccer games are not the "event" type of games that other major sports are yet. People are going because they care about the sport and the game itself, not because it is just something to do. You would be hard pressed to tell me that all the women (and men) going to LSU football or an NBA game legit care about the sport itself, but rather are there for the event and atmosphere. Soccer hasn't gotten there yet.

Naw. A majority of the people in the Cauldron are guys, for sure, but I really don't think it is even at least 80% guys. I'll pay attention a little more tomorrow and see.
