Championship is as good or better than MLS. Go back and watch some of the games he played LB. he shut his side down and made some solid runs. He is not a huge threat going forward, but he has played the best defense of any LB the USMNT has run out.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be on the team because he's in the Championship (I wouldn't mind having him as a squad player, as I said), just that if he was as good as people sometimes make him out to be he should have been able to break through more on a bad Aston Villa team.
He did fine against some decent Gold Cup teams, but this is still pretty debatable. Fabian has done a very solid job against some good teams, and he also offers a lot more going forward at LB. Lichaj may have made good runs...right up to the point where he inevitably cut in on his right foot. It's just so predictable.
In my opinion whatever small boost Lichaj gives defensively (and I'm not sure at this point there's an upgrade at all, but whatever, we'll go with that) is outweighed by the big advantage that a Fabian offers going forward.

He did WELL against some STRONGER Gold Cup teams than the ones the US will be playing this go round.

OK he did WELL (
) against Guadeloupe, Jamaica, and Panama (he did fine against Mexico, but most of it was at RB). I would say he did well defensively, but was just serviceable going forward, but whatever, he certainly didn't hurt the team.
At the same time I would argue that Fabian has been better overall, and has certainly played against some good teams, whether they be in friendlies, qualifiers, etc.
I have no issue with bringing Lichaj in. I don't completely understand why he's been totally frozen out. But I don't see him as anything more than a useful squad player, and I definitely wouldn't start him over Fabian. Even Beasley (who granted does make me nervous at times) has done pretty well in some tough games.

Barring the small chance that Chandler and Dolo man the outside backs next summer in Brazil, I think we will see Fabian at LB, it's where he is of most importance to us. DMB has been awesome filling in so far, and his comeback has been fun to watch so far, but he's only temping at LB for now. Landycakes is the missing ingredient in the MF, that will allow Fab to slide back to LB.

I already agreed there are better options as far as attacking LB's, but Fabian is not as strong defensively. Unless someone steps up and wins the LM spot Fabian is the best option ere and Lichaj is better defensively than Beasley will ever be. Plus Lichaj is almost a decade younger. He is also 5'11 and has very good pace. Not as fast as Beasley, but more than fast enough.
