Being edgy has nothing to do with it. As long as they are successful and fun to watch, Americans will like them.

Big difference in having sponsors like every club does and being owned and used as a marketing tool all while completely giving the fans no say into the club. B/c all your members are Red Bull employees and the local fans can't afford the membership fee b/c its absurdly high.

We're used to that. It's not going to be a turn off for most of us.

Franchises are how we get MK Dons situations, which is why these are clubs there is a big difference.

How can you support an actual German club and spew pro RB crap

If you actual learn about German football culture while picking a club it can become a huge turn off.

You don't have to fall 100% in line to support a team.

Of course but fan culture is so much of an integral part of German football. It sets it a part from others in a good way.

Also look at RB Salzburg, lots of their fans are jumping ship b/c how the club is being run despite wining the league over and over. Attendance has dropped big time and some fans even have formed a new club.

Eintracht Franfurt,Darmstadt 98 and/or die roten teufel...1. FC Kaiserslautern !

Is it Darmstadt or Ingolstadt whose fans are mainly made up of the local university's students?
Saw a short documentary on it but I can't remember which one.

Bandwagon? I said last year they would stay up once they were promoted. It wasn't hard to see the potential.

Agreed. Not sure what's "edgy" about it. The team is fun to watch.

I could give zero fricks about the German soccer system and if Leipzig honors it.

Fair enough, if you want to be that cool guy going against it, but if you want Germany to keep having some of the best atmospheres in the world then the system is the reason its there.

Put it this way, say one day they want to spend more money but can't b/c of financial regulations b/c the club does not generate enough organically. So their next move is to hike ticket prices. The avg 300-500 euro season ticket now becomes 800-1000, single tickets jump 20 euro and this is in an area of the country were the people are not well of at all. At every other club if this was even attempted it would have to be voted on by the members. But at RB the members is less than 20 people all Red Bull employees who of course vote yes on the price raise. The fans have no say and thus attendance drops b/c no one can afford it. You can apply this fictional scenario ( that has been attempted by clubs) to other things that deal with the club.

With out its current structure in Germany you would not have, standing seating, beer in your seats (which is not allowed in some countries) and other amazing fan involvement.

Another good video about RB, and its more from their side of the debate. These fans are basically embracing the bad guy image.

It also hits on what I said before about how from a football standpoint they do everything spot on.

Lol at these dudes having their face lured out

Uli Hoeness on RB Leipzig:
quote:

People can express their opinions freely in a democracy. But if they accept Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg they shouldn't resent RB Leipzig and Red Bull. It's either legitimate for a company to support a club - or it isn't. Personally I think we should abolish the 50+1 rule [clause stating that a members' club must hold a majority of the voting rights in the professional football operation] anyway, for two reasons. On the one hand this rule doesn't exist in international football, and many German clubs have to be able to compete with other leagues. On the other hand I'd like to put an end to the common opinion that FC Bayern are against the abolition of this rule because other clubs might become dangerous. We've issued 25 percent of our shares to adidas, Allianz and Audi, and we're competitive both on a national and an international level, so we'll succeed in the future too.

I see what he's saying but I appreciate that the B-liga keeps it cheap for fans to attend games. That and giving shareholders a true say in club matters. One RB Leipzig in the league doesn't bother me...18 clubs like that would.

Also added:
quote:

"As far as I'm concerned any club should be able to sell its shares to anybody whatsoever," he added. "I don't give a damn!"

"We wouldn't do that though and our fans know that. They've got my 100 percent guarantee about that."

Good news from my perspective...

Thanks for all of the info guys. So I get that as long as I don't sell out and bandwagon up on a Glazer/Snyder owned team, I should feel good about even choosing a cheesy red bull market saturated communist team. Cheers soccer board

Bvb match was good. Not a great result though 1-1
