Great look at the American World Cup in 1994

Fascinating to see not just how far we've come from not even having a domestic league (every nation on earth have leagues, even then) and only one world cup appearance in 50 years, trying desperately not to be blown out of our home stadiums... to being a mainstay of the tournament with a knockout round appearance being the minimum result acceptable and getting kids to pick us over Germany and Mexico.
The 1994 Tournament kickstarted American soccer by about 2 decades, heck, being something to look forward to started the revival even beforehand as we finally made it back in 1990. Ever get the feeling the World is terrified by what another USA World Cup would do? Here's to USA '22 (fingers crossed)

That was a pretty great walk down memory lane.
I didn't remember Bulgaria doing so well.
Roberto Baggio was my first ever favorite player though.

I love FIFA (video game)'s Creation Center deal, because now I can finally play as the 1990 Italy squad with Baggio leading the charge.... but I also beat them 3-0 with the 1994 USA just because.

they were one of the more entertaining teams to watch during that world cup. Hristo Stoichkov was a bad arse

That was really the first time I had watched soccer and I felt terrible for him. This just reminded me that his shot really didn't decide the outcome. If Brazil made their next, they win anyway.
