Wahl said on twitter than Gooch is out to avoid the astro turf in Portland and a potential injury on his already injury prone knees. I, like all if you, thought he played well enough the other night to justify a second start.

Don't count me in that. I thought he looked slow, and was out of position time and time again. A decent team would have taken advantage of that.

That makes sense. So we should see him next game.

I thought Torres did some decent things. Beckermann though looked pretty terrible as always.

I'm not sure I love the lineup. I felt like Beckerman would be a lock on starter for this entire tournament, so I'm not surprised by that (not to mention he's not as bad as this board makes him out to be, he's just mediocre).

I wanted to see Holden (I'm guessing we're still trying to bring him along slowly), and I don't love the idea of Torres on the left (assuming that's what happens). Better than Castillo though.

I guess you could make the same argument for Shea not starting that you could make for Holden not starting (fitness), so maybe I'm convincing myself it's ok.

ETA: I also like Herc > Wondo, but it's not a big deal, Wondo scored the other night and he should be more than fine against a Belize.

I don't think Beckerman looked terrible, but he also didn't do anything spectacular...which is par for course for him. He just sits back and congests things in the center midfield. I guess he does serve a purpose, but to most (including me), he looks useless. I thought Torres, Corona, and cakes looked bad. Yeah, cakes scored two goals, but his first touch was the worst I've ever seen for him and he gave away his first few touches of the game.

Overall, he looked bad. Granted, that could have been because he had Castillo mincing around on his side of the field, haha.

ETA: I should not that I'm definitely a Torres fan and was happy to see him get the call, but the other night...not too impressed.

My ASSumption is that Beckerman, Torres, Corona, etc. perhaps didn't understand what was expected tactically and are being given a do over.

Perhaps Jurgen feels they are more fit than Holden and Shea? It's a long tournament, and we have three games in 7 days here. Just about everyone is going to have to play at some point. I'd rather save the strongest 11 for Costa Rica.

Relax guys. Anyone think the reason that Gooch and Stu aren't playing is because of concern with the artificial surface? Just a thought.

possible, i think they held Stu out to bring him on in the 2nd half. I just think they don't want to derail his progress by starting him a full 90.

I think Beckerman did, and I think that's why Klinsmann likes him so much. He's the only CM that actually stays put. Which is good, but also means he never creates any chances. I would definitely keep Holden and Shea on the bench at the start...but honestly, Corona played worse than Torres, Castillo, and Beckerman. I guess I would have Herc up top and move Cakes to the wing on that side. Shea is a better choice than Torres, but like you said, might not be ready. Torres is definitely a better option than Castillo.

Anyone else notice that the board got really quiet when the Holden piece came on?

I don't trust him cutting on grass. I think he's done in regards to meaningful international play. I wish they would have called Omar so he could work on his.
