For those of you who think we're getting German leftovers

Tweezy and I were talking about this off the board last night, like we often do. We each put on our finest cardigan, crack open a nice German brew and make fun of all of you via text message. Anyway, back on topic, we were discussing the Germany vs Sweden game, another wild encounter, and how Germany's defense is pretty brutal.
We came to the conclusion that Fabian Johnson is at least as good as every other left back that Germany has been trotting out. They started Marcy Jansen there yesterday, Marcy Schmelzer has played it a lot, Dennis Aogo has done it, Benny Howedes and Jerome Boateng have pushed out wide to try it as well.
Fabian Johnson is at least as good as all of those guys, the only guy they could play at left back that would be a huge improvement would be Philipp Lahm, which would open the door for Sebastian Jung at right back, which may not be a bad move for them.
Also, when you look at John Anthony Brooks, that's another Joachim Löw frick up. Boateng looks great this year but Hummels looks like arse. Mertesacker can play it but for how much longer? Badstuber was supposed to be one of the future stars but he has a long recovery ahead. Brooks would be a great option going forward but Löw doesn't work hard enough to find guys who don't play on the bigger teams.
The moral of the story is yeah, Jermaine Jones, Danny Williams, and Timothy Chandler probably never would have gotten any real playing time for Germany but Fabian Johnson & JAB were serious steals for the U.S.

We've gotten some Germans and they've gotten some Poles and Turks. Just the way the international game goes.

I think it's funny how Jurgen was getting questioned for calling up so many guys who played for smaller teams at the beginning of his tenure. Now, the US has a ton of depth. As with every other player, he saw these guys as a chance to get some steals and a few worked out. It helps that they're German.

Some people have argued that it's somehow a bad thing that we're only getting their scraps, when 1) that's not a bad thing if it's true and 2) it's not completely true.
Germany isn't really taking any Turkish players. They have guys who have lived their whole life in Germany but have Turkish parents. They did poach a couple of Poles though.

Yeah, it's always a good thing to build your options up from which to choose. On that podcast that Tweezy linked the other day, they made a comment that England has a pool of like 50 players, whereas Germany has a pool of 150, or something similar to that.
I didn't enjoy watching us try to find our identity in the middle of WCQ but I'm all for it in friendlies.

I don't even really hate you that much, don't be so hard on yourself.

Would it help if I said I almost bought a Bayern jersey yesterday? Schweinsteiger. Been wanting to get a non-EPL or MLS jersey for ages, and I almost pulled the trigger.

Home jersey or the lederhosen one? Schweinsteiger is a good choice. I'm eying a Philipp Lahm for Christmas.

Home. I ultimately decided against it because I already have several red jerseys. Trying to find a good deal on the lederhosen one.

The lederhosen one is kind of a collectors item of sorts. I'm going to get the away jersey this time since I already have a home. Just waiting to produce a good CL jersey so I can add that. I liked the black one a few years ago, but never actually bought one.

I got the CL jersey a couple of years ago, it's one of my favorite Bayern tops of all time

That's the one I was talking about, I didn't really like the galatic ones from last year.

Found a place that sold official Fred jerseys, but all they had left were too small.
I'm just dying to add to my collection. The last one I bought was last year's United home kit with Valencia's name and number he only wore for that season.
