He's good, but people acted like he was some amazing player. He was never the best player on man u, real or Milan. Maybe galaxy but none of the others. That's no knock on him he played alongside of gigs and Paul scholes. But his popularity was based on his model looks and his spice girl wife.

I can say that having watched the France 2006 team get to the finals of that WC, in France, the only players that were talked about a lot were Vieira, Zidane, Henry, and the young Franck. The GK situation was also heavily scrutinized. I guess in this sense he was underrated because listening to people talk about him on here it seems he was pretty legit, yet the only memory I have of him was just that he was part of the team. Then again, my soccer interest at that point was in its infancy. Anyone have good highlights for Makelele?
