So everyone knows that Fox was bitching about the possibility of having to broadcast the World Cup in 2022 in Qatar during the Winter because of the NFL and NCAA football games that are going to be happening.
Well, FIFA just threw them the 2026 World Cup too.
I bet this is how it went.
Fox: "FRICK A WINTER WORLD CUP! WE WON'T STAND FOR THIS!
FIFA: We'll give you 2026 if you just do it.
Fox: Aight

FIFA just awarded FOX the rights to the 2026 WC. They didn't do it like they did in past years by announcing when the last day to bid is and stuff like that. No one knew this was coming. People at ESPN are pissed because they basically weren't given a chance to submit a bit. FIFA just blindsided everyone.

I'm honestly kind of upset about this. I know Fox covers the UCL, but I've thought that ESPN's World Cup coverage was great and they seem to really be committing soccer.

I'm not gonna get upset about this because so much can change in 11 years. Their soccer coverage may actually not be so shitty by then.

I thought that fox won the rights to both 2018 and 2022 at the same time. So fifa just gave them 2026 too? Just further proof that fifa does not want to see the US become a soccer power.

True, Fox may actually send the announcers to the games by then. If it's not held here of course.
