That was a huge jump, it was a totally diffent game really (strategy wise).
They're pretty good about tweaking based on the feedback from testing, forums, etc. so I have faith

DL crapped out on me twice already

You can switch off of the new tactical defending...

Looks like its just your choice (online match you set a preference probably)
Its at the very bottom of controller settings, you just switch to legacy option

passing is more sensitive, I like that part

I wish they would make the demo more open.

It would be awesome if we could play XBL matches with just the teams they gave us, or if we could play our friends online. The least they could do is let us play a full 12 minute match.

I was thinking the same thing, but the file was fairly large for a demo. The 3 minute halves cause issues with the flow of the game. I agree, they could have at least given us 5 minute halves.

12 is more fluid and polished than 11. I think the defensive AI is greatly improved and the user defense is more realistic. The push/pull is way better than mashing down one button. I have yet to see a defender grossly mishandle a ball in the air like last year. 12 makes you work harder to get players free. For instance, I was having trouble finding space with city in a 4231 so I switched it to a 433 and started getting balls in behind much easier. Not everyone is going to be able to lace perfect through balls in and not every forward is going to get on the end of them, which I like. This version seems to put more of a premium on possession and timing/power of passes. Only downside is it is going to take a little getting used to having R1 as secondary pressure and O as tackle. BTW computer AI is very hard to defend and dispossess. Gonna be a good year.

I agree 100%.

ETA: I'm sure online play will find some flaw to exploit.

I like the new outcomes from shot deflections. The computer had a one on one with my goalie. I charged. The ball deflected up, but was still headed for the goal. My defender sprinted to the goaline and made a flying volley to save the goal. That was sick. In the last game, if it took a deflection off of the keeper, it wasn't going in. That just wasn't an option.

I've been burnt by a couple sick goals, which is bothersome. The first goal I gave up beat me from at least 35. The second goal was a shot from out side the box that found the boot of a player inside the box, who one timed it into the net.

My wide players aren't getting open, and I'm used to the passing lanes created by a collapsing midfield. The extra time on the ball is making it hard for me to find runs. I'm having to play much more possessive, but even then finding an open shot in the game is hard. I've only scored two goals in a game once.

I had the same problem scoring in FIFA 11. Maybe I just suck, but I thought the defense was too good at intercepting passes and my offensive players made shite runs.

Now I'm hearing the defensive AI is BETTER and the runs still suck?

The defensive controls will open up the game a lot more. Fast players like Messi and David Silva will kill Fifa 12.

The computer players off the ball are awful at getting open and stretching the D

but should every AI player automatically know how to make deadly well timed diagonal runs like david villa? I don't think so. I feel like the runs in 11 were more predictable. In this one, the AI runs of average wingers seem to be direct to the corner as they should be. When I have triggered runs for central players from a wide position they have seemed to be into space at least. The hardest part for me has been finding the space to get the ball to them. The AI defense is so much more about managing space than marking men as in the old one.

That being said, I have yet to be able to score a goal from working a ball through the middle against world class AI. It is frustrating, but truth be told probably more realistic.

Again, try changing up your formation. If you put the AI player's starting position higher and wider they are more likely to get wide. If you stick with a 451 or flat 442 be prepared to work a lot of triangles on the wing to get people free behind.

welp I'm ready to get fired a bunch in Manager mode

the computer's ball skills are dominant and winning the ball back is worthless until they're in your penalty area.

Your team's runs are still pretty worthless and that's what bothers me more than anything. I get so annoyed when I have space with a midfielder to pick out a pass only to watch everyone stand around.

I hope they make teams more aggressive in the transfer market. If I list Ribery or Robben for sale, someone should be trying to buy them.

Agreed, Caple. I'm not sure if I'm even going to bother getting 12.

I thought this at first also, but the more I play, the more I notice that if a run is there, they will take it. You can't just stand in the space and expect a guy to run.
