But it’s not a head injury and the referee never blew the whistle

Yeah dude even if you’re in pain fricking man up and sacrifice yourself

He only waived the goal off after the fact. It was the right call

That's a tough call for the ref either way.
I'd be fuming at DDG though. Just naive of him to assume the ref will stop play for him.

Head injury is a recommendation but it is well within the referee’s right to stop play for any injury he seems it necessary for
At the end of the day regardless of if he managed to physically blow the whistle or not if he wanted to stop play for injury he stops play for injury and that’s final.
Clearly since the goal stood he was calling for a foul.

Nah dude. That’s one of the worst pains ever, there’s no way that happens and you don’t go down

Obviously it'll be a painful one, but to completely turn your back on play expecting the ref to blow the whistle for you is naive.

Who said he expected the ref to blow the whistle and that’s why he was on the ground? Regardless of if the ref blows a whistle or not if that happens to me in a game I’m down for a good 10 seconds at minimum

Sounds like you are soft then if a140 lb man stepping on your foot will have you on the ground as if you get shot

First off, it wasn’t his foot, he stepped on and bent his ankle
Second off, that’s spoken truly like someone who has never been stepped on like that

I'm not arguing you won't be in pain. But to completely lay down and turn away from the field of play when the ball is in your box and you're the goalie is just bad.
Especially when it's a non-serious injury and you stay on the field afterwards.

I get it but with that sharp of a pain you don’t generally think about your responsibilities, going to ground is almost instinctual.
It really was just an incredibly unfortunate occurrence for United

Ive been stepped on, cleated, kicked, rolled ankles and Ive never went down like that. I even finished a game in high school playing with a broken Humorous.
I love soccer but people like you making excuses for giving up a completely avoidable goal to roll on the ground is why many Americans will call soccer soft
