Look I'm excited about getting players to MLS like Beckham, Henry, Villa etc. I wish there were more, but these players are toward the tail end of their careers. Not that they don't have good years left when they get here, but the majority of their best years are behind them.

The players looking to make a move to MLS are not ones with their better years in front of them. Players like Nando moving away from Liverpool (nobody saw his Chelsea form coming then), Cesc moving from Arsenal, or Ronaldo moving from Man U.

Not that it needs to be this way, or should be by now etc. I think MLS has come a long way just to get the world class players that it has. There was a time when MLS wouldn't have been considered even for players in the twilight of their playing days. We're still a long way from attracting world class players in their prime, but I think players like Villa will help to improve the standard of play in the league and propel us toward that.

Very well put. Some people get all butt hurt when you call it how it is.

Lots of stuff needs to change for MLS to become an elite league if it ever does.

Lampard to NY?

I thought Lampard was the other drunk, along with John Terry, kicked out of Heathrow for mocking American tourists after 9/11?

Thats what the papers here are saying to NY or an offer of 4 mil a year from LA. Good grief.

The way they and their readership completely melts down over anything remotely disrespectful of 9/11 it should be real fireworks when the NY Post finds out about Lampard and Terry.

I don't know much about how the league is structured, but I do know that the structure it has was designed more to keep it from folding than attracting the best footballers in the world. Kind of the antithesis of the NASL, but I don't think the original NY Cosmos business model was that far off. There is a ton of untapped potential in the American market the trick is figuring out how to unlock it.

And David Villa is not world class.

That phrase is thrown about far far too much. If he was world class he wouldnt have been sold by Barca for 6mil
Hmmm. . . And how, pray tell, did the team that bought Villa do this year vs. your world class standard, Barcelona?. . . That's right - they beat them. In both La Liga and the Champions League. And Villa was the second leading goal-scorer on that team.

ETA: I guess it just depends on your perception of world class. Different people view it differently.

Until we can offer something like the Champions League it will be hard. Eventually the salary cap has to go and probably the playoff system.

I honestly have never watched a minute of MLS. . . kind of sad considering I'll get up at 7 to watch Norwich - West Brom.

I'm a Philly fan in everything else, but left PA before the Union started. I imagine as my kids get older they will end up DC United fans and I will too.

These DPs won't make me support NYC, but I've heard they'll always have 2-3 young City players on loan which I'll be interested in.

DC United won't start spending until this stadium is built. Its basically going to be a refreshing of the franchise.

He was a leading player for arguably the best club team in the world this year. That's all I'm saying.
