Why isn’t Mexico in it or the US this time?

We played in the Copa for the centanario. Mexico has played in it before and the Gold Cup at the same time but they send a B team.

Copa Centenario was a one time thing. Since it was in 2016, there was no Gold Cup. That's why the CONCACAF teams sent their A teams, as did everyone else besides Brazil.

Perhaps with the new 2020/2024, etc cycle of Copa Americas, we will see the US and Mexico in it more frequently. However, I think it is fricking idiotic of CONMEBOL to directly challenge the Euros, which are by all means a far superior tournament. However, at least in 2020, it will likely be Qatar and Australia.

sure if concacaf and conmebol were combined. but that would be a disaster for us qualifying for the WC.

You mean forcing the USSF to fricking step up and make sure this country and clubs develop talent the way it’s supposed to be done

Ooooo the horror

These tournaments have nothing to do with WC qualification

I just wanna merge the tourneys, not the federations

Playing in the Copa in theory does way more for development than playing a bunch of resorts in the Gold Cup.

Have they made a decision on the 2025 Confederations Cup?

Exactly

Playing in a tournament and federation that has multiple teams with semi professional and amateur players in it does us no good

In March 2019, FIFA confirmed that the tournament would no longer be active owing to an expansion of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.

CONCACAF and CONMEBOL will never combine for World Cup qualification, nor should they. That would be a logistical nightmare for everyone. And the smaller Caribbean and Central American countries wouldn’t agree to that, and they hold most of the power in CONCACAF. It’s not gonna happen.

However, what will happen is increased competition between the two confederations. I think we’ll have a combined tournament Copa America Centenario style once every four years. Probably the same years as the Euros. I’m kind of surprised it’s not happening next year, but it’ll happen again soon. They’ve been talking about it for years, and they made too much money in 2016 for it to not happen again.

Agreed
I never said they would

Conmebol only has 10 nations
CONCACAF has 41

Just do a joint competition where you have 16 teams competing

I don't see us having many joint tournaments unless CONCACAF can convince the smaller nations that Nations League is just as good or better opportunity for them.
