Conte to Chelsea after the Euro's Official

Awful football, awful team selections, constantly downplaying the squad's capabilities in the media, complaining about the lack of Italian talent while he refuses to call up players like Insigne, Jack, Bernadeschi, outplayed by just about every other team in qualifying, pummeled in friendlies to teams Italy shouldn't be losing to, etc.


good riddance

By pure luck, would have lost in Milano to Croatia had the match not been canceled.

Should have lost at Bulgaria.

Struggled to break down a god awful Azerbaijan side.

Lucky to beat Malta both matches, fricking Malta.

Only match where Italy even looked decent was the draw in Croatia, and even then we weren't able to create that many chances.

Italy's basically guaranteed to exit at the group stages this summer, Conte leaving is a blessing and it's been a long time coming.

Who said he was terrible, i said i don't think he's the right hire and was not a fan.

As a player, conte was a fan favorite for his work ethic, but as a Manager, he's been involved in 2 Max fixing events.

A guy doesn't do a 4 month(won appeal from 10months) suspension for shits and giggles. ZERO respect for a coach who was a major part of fixed matches.

I'm not quite as filled with vitriol toward Conte but I do agree that he's been far from impressive with the NT.

We'll see what happens this summer but I don't have a lot of hope that Italy looks as fluid as even Prandelli had it at times.


I would also add that Allegri coming in and arguably improving Juve takes a bit of shine off what he did with that loaded roster. Conte certainly did a good job but Juve also had some head scratching results in Europe considering the talent he had.

I wouldn't base much off friendlies as Italy has been absolutely awful in those for as long as I can remember but I certainly agree that Italy looked absurdly sluggish against so many teams that they completely outclassed in talent during qualifying.

Again, they often did get the 1-0 or 2-1 result but usually the same way that Juve did under Conte against the bottom half of Serie A: an ugly nail biter with a dubious PK and then some last ditch tackles and Buffon wonder saves against a team that should have been done and dusted 3-0 after 45 minutes.



Conte hasn't really shown to be a manager that puts much innovation into tactics but a "fire his guys up, keep them more concentrated and outworking other teams" type.

I think this has led to a bit of an issue with NT squad selection. To put it into EPL viewer friendly terms: he's been a bit too in love with the James Milner and Gareth Barry hustle and bleed for the team types at the expense of talents like Insigne etc etc.



That said, his players do seem to love him and his approach is probably much better suited to club football than a NT like with a Simeone, who has a very similar style of managing.

I kind of see it the other way. I think stars wouldn't respond well to a coach like long term. I think that has been part of Jose's inability to stay at a big job long term.

You can get those undervalued gritty guys to work their arse off for you time and time again but you get the Ronaldo's, Cesc's, Fab's etc... and after a while they want to play their pretty boy soccer and it leads the fallouts that always occur under him.

Simeone is a great manager, I just think he's no different than Jose and is not really what Roman is looking for.
