So you believe Zarate when he says that he'd never heard of Hitler?
No. Not at all.
But that over exaggerated statement demonstrates--much like a 10 year old kid that gets in trouble for something -- how ignorant he is. I merely said that I would be shocked if Zarate could provide even a rudimentary understanding of Italian Fascism or any political belief. If he played for Roma I think you could've have just as easily seen him holding a banner in the Curva Sud with hardcore Communist Roma Ultras. That was my only point and it's certainly not to defend Zarate but simply that most of these groups are poorly educated youth and 20 somethings trying to be part of a crowd with only a small percentage of real believers. But that's what makes them dangerous at the same time.
In short, I'd guess Zarate is no more an actual fascist than many posters here are actual bigots even if they come across to the contrary. They're just trying to be cute for the crowd like a show poodle and not really world savvy enough to realize how ignorant they may seem.
However, I'm also not defending Lazio's fanbase nor leadership. Lazio does have a ton more fascist supporters than any other team in Italy who know exactly what they're doing and the club itself has done more to foster that following than push it to the fringes. Go to a Lazio match and you will see that they are not as much the fringe as they should be.

In my opinion it's better not to be so far anywhere that one becomes intoxicated with hatred.
It accomplishes little more than reduce one to pawn in sweeping movements of power where the ideas that actually begat the hatred are no more than slogans to manipulate support anyway. As hard as it may be in a current political landscape where the only true enemy of any party seems to be open minded, critical reasoning skills

FWIW, better to be right wing than left wing.
That's a matter of opinion, but I'll save that for the political board...
"The socialism I believe in is not really politics. It is a way of living. It is humanity. I believe the only way to live and to be truly successful is by collective effort, with everyone working for each other, everyone helping each other, and everyone having a share of the rewards at the end of the day. That might be asking a lot, but it's the way I see football and the way I see life."

Nicely put.

Just a bit more that might or might not inform the discussion.
I sort of liked the comparison to Jersey residents.
Lazio is the state in which Rome is situated.
Called Latium in ancient times, thus the language "Latin" as the language of the Roman Empire. Both clubs, it seems adopt ancient symbols....Lazio the eagle, Roma the wolf of Romulus and Remus.
