Chris Wondolowski on pace to break MLS single season goal scoring record of 27

Set in the inaugural season by Roy Lassiter.
Through 20 of 34 matches, Wondo has 17 goals in 18 matches (missed two matches while with the national team)
He scored a hat trick and picked up an assist on Saturday in a 5-0 romp over 2nd place Real Salt Lake earning him a Player of the Week award.
Roy Lassiter's 27 was set against 11 expansion defenses. Raul Diaz Arce and Eduardo Hurtado both scored over 20 that year. Brian McBride had 17.
No one has scored more than 20 goals in an MLS regular season since 2002, when Carlos Ruiz had 24 and Taylor Twellman bagged 23.

Those dc united teams were awesome with Roy and Diaz Arce all the el Salvadorians in dc loved him

Probably not. I generally watch the day after on MDL.

Not sure how well CWs game will translate to the international level but the dude has a knack for the back of the net and I'd like to see him get some friendly game pt and a chance to settle into a few games.

I doubt it was much of a difference in pay at all then, Nobody would turn down something like a million or two a year for a hundred thou instead.
ETA: did some research, he apparently is making 300k this year, as a non-DP so it all counts against the cap.

So he isn't really making a huge difference.. it's likely that they only offered him 300k. Because if they wanted to pay him more, only 35k MORE than what he currently makes would be added to the cap.

Not very good.
He's fairly slow, and doesn't create much for himself. He is superb at being in the right place at the right time and taking advantage of poor defensive mistakes by MLS defenders. He's a player that could probably bag a goal or two during qualifying, but against better international opponents, he'll struggle with the speed and quality of defenders.

Don't get me wrong. I *like* Wondo. He's a fun player to watch, he was super nice in person.... but he's not an international caliber player.

That wasn't even the worst miss of the gold cup.
Our best player (Dempsey) pulled a Kei Kamara against Jamaica. Of course, Dempsey's miss came with us solidly in command. Wondo missed the tap in on an equalizer. Good players miss easy shots every now and then. I don't see Wondo panning out as an international player, but I also don't know who you call up to ride pine instead of him. Will Bruin? Juan Agudelo? Some teenage Afro-German American playing in the 4th tier in Germany?
I hope we keep calling up Terrance Boyd, btw. He could definitely develop into a target forward that could make our team considerably better.

Given his recent form, I wouldn't be in tears to see Eddie Johnson called in for the Mexico and Jamaica matches.
He's faster than anybody else in the pool not named DaMarcaaaaaa Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesley, if nothing else.
