They've been getting rid of all players who aren't hispanic, had a terrible draft (due in part to their first round pick being a mid second rounder at best, but of course he's hispanic so they picked him up), and now they've dealt Shalrie Joseph to the Sounders. This last development isn't terrible on the surface (Joseph is old and has a DP salary), but then there is this:

The deal is now official. The full trade has Chivas USA sending second-round picks in the 2014 and 2015 MLS drafts to Seattle along with Joseph and the No. 3 spot in the MLS Allocation order. Yes, the Goats gave the Sounders two picks, their high allocation order spot AND are paying a portion of Joseph’s salary.

Wait.. what did they get out of this?

All I'm seeing is things they gave up.

Turrible. What kind of fan support do they get? I've never really seen them on TV. Anytime an LA team is playing on the tube, it's the Galaxy (at least that's how it seems).

Safe to call them the MLS's Clippers? (20 years ago version)

Hardly any. Galaxy own that city, and they don't even sell out most of their matches.

I don't think I've seen them play a nationally televised match (ESPN or NBCSN).

The Sounders also got second-round picks in the 2014 and 2015 drafts in the deal, and moved up to No. 3 in the allocation order, which could help in adding a U.S. national team player later this year.

Chivas USA freed up a DP spot on its roster, got salary-cap relief and moved down to No. 15 in the allocation order.

Nothing, it looks like. Just a salary dump for Chivas.

Sigi and Seattle were probably like "Meh, he's old and we don't want to spend that much money on him." So Chivas decided to throw in two draft picks to make sure Seattle accepted.

El Classssicccccooooooo!

The LA/Chivas derby is usually televised. Those matches were entertaining a couple of years ago, when the Chivas midfield hacks (Paulo Nagamura, Jesse Marsch) would take their shots at Beckham and Dema Kovalenko was there to retaliate.

This whole deal shows that Sigi is sly and Chivas is incompetent.

You're right. I forgot about that one being on ESPN sometime last summer.

They're probably just picking up the designated driver part of his compensation package

I wonder if Sigi insisted that Chivas throw in two racks of ribs and five pints of Ben and Jerry's to seal the deal.

Seems more like a mid morning snack for Sigi, but what do I know?

My favorite Sigi look is:

- 3X polo shirt
- 54 waist windpants
- scarf

.... while sitting outside in Houston in August.
