The problem with Slim purchasing Atletico Madrid is that he would also have to buy up the club's 115 million euro debt. Unless he gets to renegotiate La Liga's broadcasting rights deal too, he has very little leeway in making inroads towards a profitable club.

I'm no financial guru but if you had like 50 billion dollars seems like 115 million is like me buying a coke out of the vending machine, no?

It's not a huge piece of money to the world's richest man, but he's obviously a very good business man. Would a great businessman really want to assume all of that debt and then try to operate in a system that props up two teams?
This isn't like when Uncle Roman bought Chelsea in the EPL, although pre-Roman Chelsea might be comparable to Atleti.
I haven't done the proper research that I assume Carlos Slim will do but I would honestly stay away from La Liga and Serie A, from a business standpoint.

If Slim wants to own a fancy football toy like Abramovich did with Chelsea, then sure, buying out Atletico's €115 million debt is pocket change for the wealthiest man on the planet. If he wants his club to garner a decent profit or at least break even, as hendo said, given the tenuous financial situation of La Liga, owning debt ridden clubs like Valencia and Atletico might not be a wise investment.

You know what would be even more fun for a billionaire? Buy the MLS, not individual teams.. just a controlling stake in the MLS, and start pumping money into their transfers (as the league handles that somehow or another is my understanding)
