I understand 3 points for win, 1 for draw, 0 for loss. I understand how the bottom teams are relegated. I just don't understand how the playoffs work at all in Spain and premier league. How is the champion determined after the season is over? I don't understand playoff format.

There's not a playoff in the EPL or Bundesliga. Team with the most points is the champion.
I don't think La Liga has a playoff either, but I've never paid attention to that league so I'm not 100% sure.

LOL
I thought he meant how the ties come about between those that aren't automatically relegated or promoted . Went into a long explanation, then I figured out that's not what I meant at all he was wondering how tiebreakers are handled were two sides to be equal atop the table.

If you really want your head to spin, look up "Argentina promotion/relegation."

There are playoffs in some countries lower leagues to determine the third team to get promoted to the next league. Germany had a playoff between the third to last highest division team and 3rd place second division team to see who stays up.
But it's not like playoffs on our sports per se
