Probably not terribly. Haven't studied the lower body yet but the sesamoid bone in the hand doesn't do much. I think it serves as the attachment for one minor muscle or something.

There is a sesamoid bone on the great toe's extensor tendon and he should not be negatively affected at all from it being removed.

I believe it attaches a couple ligaments in the foot. I actually saw this injury at one of the Physical Therapy clinics I observed at over the summer, the guy seemed to have a lot of foot pain early on. Of course, he was not world class athlete with the means of a Brek Shea. Shouldn't be to serious
TL;DR he should be alright with rehab
